Around midday Sunday, October 11, 2026, a tornado and damaging winds struck Cumberland County, leaving cars on their sides, businesses damaged and trees and limbs across homes, vehicles and roads. WRAL reported that Fayetteville Fire deemed a section of the damaged hotel unsafe. The National Weather Service confirmed a tornado by radar over Fayetteville at 12:03 p.m. EDT, but no verified Enhanced Fujita rating or finalized path had been established in reporting available early October 12.142
That distinction matters beyond meteorology. A radar confirmation establishes that a tornado was occurring at an observed moment. It does not tell a hotel guest whether a room can be used, a resident whether a damaged property is safe, or a business owner how much rebuilding lies ahead. Those questions require assessments on the ground.
Damage where people shop and stay
The most concentrated commercial damage was around Skibo Road and Bragg Boulevard in northwestern Fayetteville. In the Sam’s Club parking area, vehicles were pushed together, onto shopping carts or onto their sides. A tractor-trailer and a camper were also documented overturned near Walmart, around the 1500 block of Skibo Road. There is no verified total of overturned vehicles.712
The damaged hotel was TownePlace Suites by Marriott Fayetteville Cross Creek, at 1464 Skibo Road. Local reporting and fire department imagery documented partial roof loss; WRAL reported the finding that part of the building was unsafe. That is a serious restriction on use, but it is not evidence that the entire hotel was condemned. No verified count of evacuated or displaced guests, damaged rooms or people needing alternative accommodation has been established.12891
Along Bragg Boulevard, Bethel International sustained roof damage in the 4600 block, and Talecris Plasma Resources showed visible damage. At Auto Glass Now, identified at 4535 Bragg Boulevard, a garage door was mangled or partly pulled open. The accounts describe several affected businesses, not a complete inventory of commercial losses.612
Damage extended into residential areas. Trees and fences were down on Blanton Road in northeastern Fayetteville, while fallen trees and limbs hit homes and vehicles and obstructed roads elsewhere. Downed lines and snapped poles added electrical hazards to the physical wreckage. There is no reconciled count of damaged homes, blocked roads or lost utility equipment.121
Fayetteville Fire and partner agencies responded around Skibo Road and Bragg Boulevard, and police asked the public to avoid the area. The department’s Sunday statement, quoted by the Fayetteville Observer, described the operations underway.6
Both search & rescue and hazardous materials response operations are underway.
The operational language should not be stretched into an outcome. It does not establish a rescue total or identify a particular hazardous substance released during the storm.
A confirmed tornado, an unfinished assessment
Warnings and observations on October 11
- 11:37 a.m. EDT60108
NWS Raleigh issued a tornado warning for northwestern Cumberland and southeastern Hoke counties, initially through 12:15 p.m. At 11:36 a.m., the storm was near Raeford, moving northeast at 40 mph.
- 11:49 a.m. EDT10
Radar-indicated rotation was near Fort Bragg, moving northeast at 25 mph.
- 12:03 p.m. EDT4
NWS reported a radar-confirmed tornado over Fayetteville, moving northeast at 35 mph.
Those changing speeds describe the storm’s movement across the ground, not the winds that overturned vehicles or damaged roofs. They cannot be used to assign tornado strength. Nor do the observations establish that every damaged property was directly struck by the tornado rather than other strong winds in the same storm.
A further warning issued at 12:08 p.m. covered north-central Cumberland and southeastern Harnett counties until 12:45 p.m. Its wording described a storm capable of producing a tornado; it does not establish a separate second touchdown in Cumberland County. Tornado Watch 680 also included Cumberland from approximately 10 a.m. through 5 p.m. Sunday. These were historical alert windows, not current warnings. The storms occurred as remnants of Hurricane Isaias moved through the area.88314
The injury reporting remains qualified. An early-afternoon Fayetteville Fire statement, cited by the Fayetteville Observer around 1:13 p.m. on October 11, said no serious injuries had been reported. WRAL later described no injuries reported around 4 p.m. CBS 17 separately carried an uncorroborated account of one person injured and transported for medical help near Skibo Road. That account is not an established casualty, but the earlier phrase “no serious injuries” is not a finding that nobody was hurt. A final casualty tally remains unestablished.6212
Electricity disruption affected thousands of customers during the afternoon. The News & Observer reported a Cumberland County snapshot of 2,198 outages, attributed to ReadyNC. The Fayetteville Observer separately described more than 2,100 PWC customers affected in northern Fayetteville, including Bonnie Doone, the Walmart Supercenter area on Skibo Road, Shaw Heights and Rosehill Road.36
These are overlapping accounts of disruption, not numbers to add together. They cover different geographic and service scopes, neither is a verified peak, and neither establishes how many customers remain without power.
NWS teams were surveying damage Sunday, with assessment work expected to continue over the next several days. No Fayetteville-specific Monday survey appointment or start time was established. The unanswered questions concern both the storm itself and the practical recovery: its rating and path, the full property inventory, power restoration and whether the unsafe hotel section can be reoccupied.2

যা অজানা
- The verified EF rating, finalized path, complete casualty and property inventories, current outage count and hotel reoccupancy status remain unresolved.
এরপর
- Watch for completed survey findings and local updates on structural safety, access to affected properties and electricity restoration.
Fayetteville does not need a finished tornado rating to know that the storm disrupted ordinary places—parking lots, businesses, a hotel and homes. The rating will help explain the damage. The next local assessments must establish which of those places are safe to use again.

- Winds overturned a tractor-trailer near Walmart. Part of a hotel was declared unsafe, and thousands of customers lost electricity. The damage reached shopping areas and neighborhoods in Fayetteville. The storm's full toll, and the strength of its tornado, are still being assessed.
- Skibo Road and Bragg Boulevard were at the center of the commercial damage in northwestern Fayetteville. Farther northeast, Blanton Road also suffered wind damage. The storm struck Cumberland County around midday Sunday, October 11, as remnants of Hurricane Isaias moved through.
- Cars in the Sam's Club parking area were pushed together, onto shopping carts, or onto their sides. A camper and a tractor-trailer overturned near Walmart, around the fifteen-hundred block of Skibo Road. The damage left vehicles displaced in places where people were shopping.
- The storm tore away part of the roof at TownePlace Suites by Marriott Fayetteville Cross Creek. Fayetteville Fire deemed a section of the building unsafe. That section's safety is an immediate concern for people staying there, and whether it can be reoccupied is still unresolved.
- Bethel International also suffered roof damage along Bragg Boulevard. Talecris Plasma Resources showed damage, and a garage door at Auto Glass Now was mangled or partly pulled open. These business impacts extended the damage beyond the shopping parking lots and the hotel, along the same commercial corridor.
- The storm near Raeford was moving northeast at forty miles an hour. Later, radar showed rotation near Fort Bragg moving at twenty-five. At twelve-oh-three, radar confirmed a tornado over Fayetteville moving northeast at thirty-five. Those figures describe its movement across the ground.
- The National Weather Service issued the first tornado warning at eleven thirty-seven. It covered northwestern Cumberland and southeastern Hoke counties and initially ran until twelve fifteen. Fayetteville and Fort Bragg were among the places the storm was expected to reach around eleven forty. The radar confirmation came while that warning was in effect.
- Fayetteville Fire and its emergency-service partners launched search and rescue and hazardous materials response operations around Skibo Road and Bragg Boulevard. Police asked people to avoid the area as crews responded to the storm damage.
- Another warning covered north-central Cumberland and southeastern Harnett counties from twelve-oh-eight until twelve forty-five. It described a storm capable of producing a tornado. Cumberland was also under a tornado watch from about ten in the morning through five that afternoon. Those alert windows applied to Sunday's storm. Surveyors still have to determine its track and destructive wind speeds.
- Fayetteville Fire said no serious injuries had been reported early Sunday afternoon. Later that afternoon, no injuries were reported. Separately, one person was reportedly injured and transported for medical help near Skibo Road. That injury hasn't been confirmed, and officials haven't released a final casualty count.
- Power outages reached Bonnie Doone, the Walmart Supercenter area on Skibo Road, Shaw Heights and Rosehill Road. Fayetteville's Public Works Commission described more than twenty-one hundred customers affected in northern Fayetteville during the afternoon. The disruption extended beyond the properties with visible storm damage.
- Cumberland County recorded two thousand one hundred ninety-eight outages in an afternoon snapshot. That county figure overlaps the northern Fayetteville utility count, so adding them would count some of the same disruption twice. Both figures describe the afternoon, and neither tells us how many customers remain without power.
- Trees and limbs fell onto homes and vehicles, and across roads. Downed power lines and snapped poles added to the damage. Structural safety, access to affected properties and electricity restoration became immediate concerns after the storm.
- Blanton Road had trees and fences down in northeastern Fayetteville. Surveyors will need to separate damage caused directly by the tornado from damage caused by other strong winds in the same storm. The overturned vehicles and torn roofs alone don't resolve that question.
- Survey teams were working Sunday, with assessments expected to continue over the next several days. The tornado's Enhanced Fujita rating, which describes its strength from damage, and its final path still haven't been determined. The completed survey and full property inventory will define the storm's reach. Fayetteville Fire's assessment identified a hotel section that wasn't safe to use after the storm.
