Hustisya · Lauderhill deaths
Reggie and Rocky were inseparable. Their deaths in Lauderhill remain unexplained.
Sara returned home to find Reggie’s dog unresponsive. Police confirmed fire evidence inside the condominium, but the causes of both deaths—and any link to earlier smoke complaints—remain unknown.

When Sara returned to her Lauderhill condominium Thursday night, she could not get in because her boyfriend, Reggie, had the key. She removed a window screen, opened the front window and moved the blinds. Strong fumes hit her. Inside, she could see his dog, Rocky, on the floor. She called to him, but he did not move. She stepped away and called 911, she told CBS Miami.1
Reggie and Rocky were found dead that night, November 5, 2026. Police have confirmed evidence of a fire inside the unit, but investigators have not determined what started it or what caused either death. The fire finding answers one question about the condominium. It does not yet explain why a man and the dog who followed him everywhere died there.12
The discovery was at Wood Hue Condominiums, 4291 Northwest 19th Street, in Lauderhill’s Forest Hills neighborhood, just west of U.S. Route 441. NBC 6 reported that police were called about an unusual odor coming from an apartment at about 9:33 p.m. Thursday. Residents described the police visit to CBS Miami as a welfare check. That call time is not an established time of death or an exact time when the bodies were found.12
Sara identified her boyfriend and his dog by their first names in her interview with CBS Miami. She had been in Jacksonville for a family member’s funeral and said Reggie stopped responding to her Wednesday. By Thursday night, her feeling that something was wrong brought her home. Her account establishes when they lost contact, not when he died.1
She remembered Rocky as Reggie’s constant companion, a dog who would wait outside the restroom door until he came out. She also said Rocky was found under the recliner, a place she connected with his habit of staying near Reggie. That was her recollection of their bond, not an investigative account of their final moments.1
Wherever Reggie would move, Rocky was always there.
The warning signs remain unresolved
Alongside the grief is a question about smoke complaints before the discovery. Sara told CBS Miami she did not understand how the deaths could have happened after neighbors complained about fire and smoke. She said people had left their units. In its initial reporting, CBS Miami also relayed neighbors’ accounts of hearing a smoke alarm and smelling smoke two days before the discovery.1
Lauderhill Fire Rescue described a specific visit to the complex on Wednesday night, November 4. A neighbor had reported a smoking light fixture on a balcony. Crews resolved that problem, the department told CBS Miami, and saw no other signs of fire on the property. Fire Rescue also said no smoke detectors were sounding during that response.1
Those descriptions leave an important gap. The neighbors’ account of an alarm two days before the discovery has not been established as the same incident that brought firefighters to the complex Wednesday. Nor has the balcony fixture been connected to the fire evidence inside Reggie’s condominium. The accounts raise questions worth investigating, but they do not by themselves establish that crews missed a fire inside his unit.
What the reported sequence establishes
- Wednesday, November 41
Sara said Reggie stopped responding while she was away in Jacksonville.
- Wednesday night, November 41
Fire Rescue addressed a smoking balcony light fixture and reported no other signs of fire or sounding smoke detectors.
- Thursday night, November 512
Sara returned home. Police were called about an unusual odor at about 9:33 p.m.; Reggie and Rocky were found dead that night.
Fire evidence is not a cause
CBS Miami’s initial account left open whether a fire had occurred at all, relaying a homeowner’s suggestion that one might have started in the kitchen and spread into the living space. Its updated report carries the stronger police finding: there was evidence of a fire inside the condominium. The homeowner’s proposed kitchen origin and account of how it spread remain unconfirmed. WSVN likewise attributed its account of an apparent kitchen fire to owners, rather than reporting an established investigative finding about its origin.111
The distinction matters. Confirmation that a fire occurred cannot substitute for a determination of what killed Reggie or Rocky. Sara’s description of strong fumes is also not an identification of a substance or a medical explanation. Investigators still have to establish the cause of the fire, the causes of the deaths, when each occurred and whether the earlier smoke complaints were connected.1
Police are seeking information about what happened inside the condominium. Anyone with information can contact Lauderhill police or give an anonymous tip to Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477, according to CBS Miami.1
For Sara, the unanswered questions concern someone she called the love of her life and the dog who was rarely apart from him. “I’ll never be able to replace him,” she told CBS Miami. Evidence of a fire has narrowed the investigation’s uncertainties. It has not yet given her an explanation for the loss.1

- A man and his dog were found dead inside a condominium.
- Police found evidence of a fire inside the unit. Neighbors say they'd complained about smoke before the discovery.
- Investigators still have to explain why the pair died, and whether those earlier complaints were connected.
- The discovery happened at Wood Hue Condominiums in Lauderhill's Forest Hills neighborhood, just west of U.S. Route 441. Residents described the police visit as a welfare check.
- Police were called about an unusual odor coming from an apartment at about nine thirty-three Thursday night, November fifth. The man and dog were found dead that night. His girlfriend, Sara, identified them as Reggie and Rocky.
- Police confirmed that a fire had occurred inside the condominium. A homeowner suggested it might have begun in the kitchen and spread into the living space. Investigators haven't confirmed that proposed starting point or how the fire spread.
- Sara had been in Jacksonville for a family member's funeral. She said Reggie stopped replying to her on Wednesday, November fourth. By Thursday night, she felt something was wrong and returned home. She couldn't get in the usual way because Reggie had the key.
- Sara said she removed a screen, opened a front window and moved the blinds. Strong fumes hit her, and she saw Rocky on the floor. She called to him, but he didn't move. She stepped away and called 911.
- Sara also questioned how the deaths could have happened after neighbors had complained about fire and smoke. She said people had left their units. Fire Rescue described an earlier visit to the complex involving a smoking light fixture on a balcony.
- Fire crews went to the complex Wednesday night, November fourth, after a neighbor reported the smoking fixture. They resolved that problem. Reggie and Rocky were found dead Thursday night, November fifth, inside the condominium.
- Neighbors described hearing a smoke alarm and smelling smoke two days before the discovery. Fire Rescue said its crews saw no other signs of fire on the property during Wednesday's visit, and heard no smoke detectors sounding.
- Those descriptions may concern different complaints or different times. Nobody has explained whether the neighbors' earlier alarm account involved the same incident that brought crews out Wednesday. The difference alone doesn't show that firefighters missed a fire inside Reggie's unit.
- Rocky stayed close to Reggie throughout everyday life, Sara said. He would even wait outside the restroom door for him. She said Rocky was found under the recliner, a place she connected with his habit of remaining near Reggie.
- Sara described them as inseparable. “Wherever Reggie would move, Rocky was always there,” she said. She called Reggie the love of her life and said she'd never be able to replace him.
- Investigators are seeking information about what happened inside the condominium. They haven't determined what started the fire, what caused either death, or when they occurred. Any connection between the earlier smoke complaints, the balcony fixture and the fire inside the unit is still unknown.
