police for help getting into his home and died outside its door.0:12Police arrested his roommate, forty-seven-year-old James Stacy Riedman.0:16After a negotiated surrender, detectives allege he fired through their closed0:20apartment door, killing the twenty-four-year-old.0:23Will prosecutors file formal charges?0:25And what will a court make of his claim that he feared being hurt?0:29Officers found Tuttle on the ground outside the apartment door with an apparent0:34gunshot wound.0:35They tried to help him, but he died at the scene.0:38The apartment complex sits on Redwood Road, near eight hundred north, in Salt Lake0:44City.0:44Tuttle himself had called the emergency dispatcher.0:47He said his roommate had locked him out of their shared apartment and wouldn't let0:52him back inside.0:53When officers arrived, they could see someone inside, but that person refused to0:58come out.0:59Police called in their SWAT team and crisis negoti Police dispatched officers at one1:04o'5 p.m.1:05on November third.1:07Reedman surrendered that afternoon, reportedly around four thirty.1:12Police identified Tuttle and announced the arrest November fourth.1:16The shooting and surrender were part of that single Tuesday incident.1:20Negotiators worked for several hours before Reedman came out voluntarily.1:24Police took him into custody without a further reported incident.1:28Detectives initially hadn't determined whether the fatal wound was self-inflicted.1:33By the next day, they were accusing Reedman of shooting Tuttle through the door.1:37Their homicide investigation now centers on what Reiedman told them afterward.1:41Reidman told detectives he'd rented Tuttle a room several weeks earlier in an1:47apartment he owned.1:48He described repeated disagreements and said he felt disrespected and taken1:53advantage of.1:54Those grievances came from Reidman's account of their relationship.1:57Reidman said he deliberately locked Tuttle out because of those grievances and2:02concerns about his behavior.2:04He said Tuttle returned, knocked, and demanded entry.2:07Then tried calling him.2:09Reidman didn't answer.2:11He claimed he became afraid when Tuttle threatened to kick down the door and feared2:15Tuttle might hurt him or recruit others to do so.2:18Reidman claimed he feared being harmed and intended to scare Tuttle away.2:24Detective said he couldn't give reasonable facts explaining why he believed he faced2:28immediate danger.2:30The court hasn't decided whether his claimed fear justified firing through the door.2:34Police say Reidman described getting a gun, pointing it at the closed door, and2:39firing one round through it.2:41He aimed toward where Tuttle had been knocking.2:44Detectives allege that Round struck and killed Tuttle.2:48The account of the shot, and Reidman's stated intention to frighten him, remain2:53allegations to be tested in court.2:55Investigators say Reedman admitted hearing a gasp outside after firing.3:00He kept the door closed and didn't check whether anyone had been hurt.3:04He also didn't call police or emergency medical services.3:08Leaving Tuttle outside the apartment, where officers later found him.3:12Detectives also say Reedman hid the firearm in his bedroom.3:16They allege he picked up the spent cartridge casing and concealed that too.3:21Those alleged actions are part of the obstruction investigation, alongside the3:25investigation into the fatal shot.3:28Police booked him for investigation of a teenager was in the apartment directly3:32opposite Reedman's door.3:34Investigators said, the alleged shot passed into a shared residential space.3:39Other residents at the complex were told to shelter in place, while police dealt3:44with the barricade and negotiated a surrender.3:47Police closed Redwood Road in both directions near the complex for hours.3:52The disruption continued through the arm standoff and the response surrounding it.3:56After Reedman surrendered, detectives worked to obtain a search warrant so they4:01could enter and examine the apartment as part of their investigation into Tuttle's4:05death.4:06Reedman was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of first-degree4:10felony murder.4:11And second degree felony obstruction of justice, one count each.4:16By November4 th, he was reportedly being held without bail.4:20He is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.4:25Detectives now allege that Reidman killed Tuttle through the closed door after4:29locking him out.4:30Any prosecution would have to prove its case and address his claimed justification4:35for firing.4:36We don't yet know whether prosecutors have formally filed charges, or what a court4:41will decide about his detention and his claimed fear for his safety.Basahin ang artikuloTakbo ng kuwento sa panahonHeyDex
