Monde · Urgence à El HierroEl Hierro a besoin de lits et de personnel médical. À quelle vitesse l’Espagne peut-elle les fournir ?Rédigé 8 novembre 2026 à 14:29 UTCRegarderTranscription0:07El Hero's Hospital has expanded its emergency department into an assembly hall.0:11More than three, three hundred people have arrived since November began, and island0:15officials are seeking national help with shelter and care.0:17The urgent question is how quickly extra accommodation, medical staff, and transfers0:22can reach the people who need them.0:23El Hero has about11,400 residents.0:26It sits in Spain's Canary Islands on the Atlantic route from West Africa.0:29Officials want faster transfers to Tenerife, Gran Canaria, and mainland Spain to0:33relieve pressure where people first come ashore.0:36Over the five weeks before November6, more than eight thousand people arrived on El0:40Hero.0:40Friday alone brought a reported one thousand and three people in ten boats.0:44Those figures cover different periods from the newer November count.0:47They show the flow of arrivals, but they don't tell us how many people remain on the0:50island.0:51Local authorities counted more than three, three hundred people in about thirty0:55boats since November first.0:56Officials now need temporary shelter while keeping public services running for the1:00people arriving and for the residents who depend on those same services.1:03Accommodation is already an immediate concern.1:06Council President Alpidio Armas warned on Friday that any accommodation capacity1:10would be exceeded.1:11Officials are seeking temporary places for new arrivals, and Armas wants people1:14moved onward faster.1:16His warning describes the pressure officials expect as boats keep arriving.1:19The island still has to find somewhere for people to stay.1:22Armas says the emergency is meant to bring higher levels of government into a1:25coordinated response.1:27The island had declared it by Friday.1:29November6, his televised explanation came the following day as officials pressed1:33Spain's government for help.1:35Seven hundred people were reportedly diverted toward Tenerife, but it isn't clear1:39how many had reached their destination.1:41That movement was described on November seventh.1:43Armas is also asking for faster transfers to Gran Canaria and mainland Spain.1:47His request puts onward transport alongside temporary accommodation as an immediate1:52way to ease the island's reception burden.1:54The hospital has already moved emergency care into an assembly hall to gain space.1:58Armas described conditions as undesirable.2:00Expanding the treatment area gives staff more room.2:03But the island also needs people to deliver care as demand rises.2:14Medical personnel have been brought in from other islands, and buses have been2:17diverted to migration operations.2:19The Canary Islands government also wants the Interior Ministry to reinforce National2:22Police and Civil Guard staffing and take extraordinary measures.2:25It says it has sought a state Canary Islands Security Board meeting for almost two2:29months.2:29Those police reinforcements are still a request.2:32Sea arrivals across the Canary Islands reached a record of more than forty-six zero2:36in two thousand and twenty-four.2:37From January through October two thousand and twenty-six, the count was thirteen2:41three hundred twenty-seven.2:42That was five point five percent below the same period in two thousand and2:45twenty-five, before November's increase.2:47Regional President Fernando Clavicho says the recent daily pace is approaching two2:51thousand and twenty-four levels and sometimes exceeding them.2:53Across the archipelago, maritime rescue services rescued three two hundred and sixty2:57one people during November's first six days.3:00That rescue count covers a wider area and a different cutoff from El Hero's3:03arrivals.3:04The two totals can't be added together to count distinct people.3:07Patrols off Senegal, Mauritania, and Morocco have pushed departures farther south3:11from the Gambia, Guinea, Bissau, and Guinea.3:14That makes the Atlantic crossings longer.3:16Tighter surveillance and cooperation with Origin and Transit countries had helped3:19bring arrivals down after the2020 for record.3:22People are still dying on that route.3:24Two people were found dead on a boat heading for the Canaries this week.3:27Survivors believe five others died during the voyage.3:30At least nine migrants or refugees have died off the islands in recent weeks.3:34Separately, Senegalese police say they intercepted one hundred and forty two people3:38off Dakar on Saturday, including women and young children.3:41Hospital manager Jessica Acosta calls the facilities completely saturated.3:45Clavicho calls the situation absolutely unsustainable.3:48Prime Minister Pedro S.3:49Enchez has agreed to an urgent meeting with Clavicho, bringing the island's demands3:54for healthcare and reception support to the national government.3:57Further reinforcement of El Hira's health resources is reportedly part of the4:00planned response.4:01Spain still needs to spell out what extra help it will provide and when it will4:04arrive.4:05The urgent interministerial immigration commission meeting is scheduled for Tuesday,4:08November10 at Moncloa in Madrid.Lire l’articleChronologie de l’histoireHeyDex
