Two dead outside Virginia Beach Amazon facility; police suspect murder-suicide
Disponibile in inglese
Two adults were found dead outside an Amazon facility in Virginia Beach on Sunday, November 1. Police believe the shooting was a murder-suicide, an assessment based on exterior surveillance footage. But investigators had not publicly identified who shot whom, released either person’s name or established what brought them to that spot on the property.2
Officers responded around 2:30 p.m. to a shooting report in the 1800 block of Twin Mills Road, off Dam Neck Road. An adult man and an adult woman were already dead when officers arrived, according to the police account reported by WTKR. Police said there was no ongoing threat to the public.2
The deaths happened outside the building. WTKR described the scene as the facility’s parking lot; The Virginian-Pilot, citing a police spokesperson, located the shooting more specifically in an outdoor picnic area on the property. The Pilot gave the street reference as the “1833 block” of Twin Mills Road, within the broader 1800-block location.12
Those details establish where officers found the two people. They do not establish that either worked for Amazon, that the shooting arose from a workplace dispute or that the pair were coworkers. So far, the confirmed company connection is the location—not an employment relationship or a work-related motive.12
What the cameras helped establish
Police told WTKR that cameras covering the outside of the facility captured footage investigators reviewed. That footage led them to believe the shooting was a murder-suicide. It is a preliminary explanation of the deaths, not an announced completion of the investigation or a public account of every step that preceded them.2
The distinction matters because a description of how two people may have died does not answer why it happened. Investigators still had questions about the relationship between the man and woman and how they came to be at the scene. Deputy Police Chief Jeff Wilkerson laid out that unfinished work in an interview with WTKR.2
We are conducting our investigation to try and determine what happened, what’s the relationship between the two victims and how did they end up in the situation we found today.
Police said the two knew each other and described them as at least acquaintances. That is the extent of the relationship established publicly: it is not confirmation that they were partners, relatives or colleagues. Their identities had not been released, and police had not confirmed whether either was employed at the facility when WTKR spoke with Wilkerson.2
The public-safety reassurance is clearer than the account of the circumstances. Police said there was no ongoing threat, while also saying the investigation remained active. That guidance should not be stretched into a separate claim about whether anyone was being sought; an explicit search status was not established in the available reporting.2
A disruption inside, deaths outside
One unnamed Amazon employee told WTKR off camera that workers inside the facility were placed on lockdown for more than an hour while police investigated. That is an employee’s account, not a lockdown duration independently confirmed by police or Amazon. It describes a reported disruption inside the workplace, separate from the outdoor location of the shooting.2
Investigators remained at the property Sunday afternoon and into the evening, working to determine the circumstances surrounding the deaths. Police had not announced a motive, and the surveillance-based assessment left the central personal questions unresolved: who the two people were, the precise nature of their relationship and what led to the shooting.2
“We don’t know all of the circumstances yet, but we’re going to get to the bottom of it,” Wilkerson told WTKR. He added: “But it’s certainly a sad day in the city when someone falls to gun violence.”2
