Missing seafarer found dead after Velos Sapphire explosion in Gulf
Velos Tankers says the missing seafarer was found fatally injured. The ship is in Bahrain for a hull assessment; a suspected missile strike remains unconfirmed.
What we knew first
- Velos Tankers reports one seafarer dead, the remaining crew uninjured and the fire extinguished. The tanker is in Bahrain for a hull-damage assessment.
Still open then
- The cause, any responsibility for an attack, the extent of hull damage and the vessel’s readiness to resume its voyage remain unestablished.
We said we'd watch for
- A vessel-specific official incident account or a completed damage assessment would help separate the suspected cause from the ship’s actual condition.
