Seconds to see Caitlin Hogg: inquest finds driver could not avoid collision
A coroner found the driver had insufficient time to avoid hitting the 13-year-old after she emerged from behind her school bus. Her family’s call for safer journeys home remains.
What we knew first
- 1.2 to 2.7 seconds: that was the estimated interval in which 13-year-old Caitlin Hogg was visible to an approaching driver after emerging from behind her school bus. Coroner Joe McCrisken favoured the shorter end of that range. His conclusion was that there was insufficient time to avoid hitting her, even though the driver swerved partly onto the verge.
