George Lake recovery ends search for Felicia Swenson; identification remains tentative
İngilizce olarak mevcut
What does the recovery from George Lake settle—and what does it leave unanswered? Emergency crews ended a weekend search when they recovered a woman’s body shortly after 10 a.m. Monday, October 26, in Minnesota’s Kandiyohi County. The sheriff’s office tentatively identified her as Felicia Swenson, 47, of Spicer. But the recovery has not yet produced a public explanation of what happened to her.2
The distinction is consequential: the lake search is over; the investigation is not. The body was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for official identification and determination of the cause of death. Those findings remain outstanding in the information available for this report, and authorities have not publicly established the circumstances of Swenson’s disappearance.1
From missing report to recovery
Swenson was reported missing at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, October 24. Emergency personnel immediately began searching George Lake and the surrounding areas, with efforts extending through the weekend. The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office coordinated the operation, drawing assistance from local emergency services and state agencies.2
Search efforts resumed at 8 a.m. Monday. Shortly after 10 a.m., crews recovered the body of an adult woman from the lake in New London Township. The reports establish that approximate recovery time, not an exact minute. Sheriff Eric Tollefson described the end of the search as a “solemn conclusion,” according to the West Central Tribune’s account of his written statement.23
The response brought together New London Fire Department and New London Ambulance, Spicer Fire Department, the Kandiyohi County Rescue Squad, Willmar Police Department and the Minnesota State Patrol. The sheriff’s office also thanked the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, Crossmon Consulting and the Kandiyohi County Water Rescue and Recovery Team for their work during the operation.1
The Kandiyohi County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to Mrs. Swenson’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.
Earlier search notices should now be read as a record of that operation, not as current instructions. Willmar Radio’s updated article retains its earlier account of the Monday search resumption beneath the recovery update. The two accounts describe successive stages of the same effort: crews resumed searching, then found the body. The later recovery supersedes the search-in-progress account.2
During the search, authorities said they were not requesting volunteer searchers and published a tip line for information about Swenson’s whereabouts. That notice was part of the missing-person search, not a renewed appeal after the recovery. The sheriff’s office says the investigation into her disappearance remains active.2
Funeral plans and unanswered questions
For Swenson’s loved ones, funeral preparations are proceeding while official findings remain pending. Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home’s notice lists her death date as October 24, 2026—the Saturday she was reported missing. The body was recovered two days later, on October 26. Those dates describe different events; the notice is not an official identification of the recovered woman or a medical determination of when or how she died.83
Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, October 29, at Harvey Anderson & Johnson Funeral Home in Willmar. The funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday, October 30, at Refuge Church in Willmar, with another visitation during the hour before the service. Interment is planned at Lake Florida Mission Covenant Cemetery in rural Spicer.8
The sheriff’s tentative identification and condolences do not replace the medical examiner’s formal work. Nor does recovering a body from a lake, by itself, establish drowning or tell the public whether a death was accidental, intentional or the result of a crime. No cause or manner of death has been publicly established in the material available for this report.15
Monday’s recovery answers the immediate operational question: crews are no longer searching George Lake for Swenson. What remains is the work of establishing identity, determining the cause of death and explaining the circumstances that led to the search. The sheriff’s office has not yet publicly supplied those answers.1
