19-year-old dies after pickup runs red light in Lincoln, police say
İngilizce olarak mevcut
One young driver is dead and another is injured after a collision at Dupont Boulevard and Johnson Road in Lincoln, Delaware. The man who died was 19, from Ellendale. Police say a pickup truck failed to stop at a red light and struck the driver’s side of his car.1
The crash happened at approximately 10:20 p.m. on October 28, 2026. The Chevrolet Cavalier’s driver was taken to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries and died October 29. The pickup’s driver, a 22-year-old man from Georgetown, was hospitalized with injuries police described as non-life-threatening.1
Delaware State Police set out that account in an October 30 release. It identifies the pickup’s failure to stop as the action preceding the collision, but the reconstruction remains open. The release names neither driver and announces no charges. Its description is a preliminary investigative finding, not a final legal determination of fault.1
Crash, death and investigation
- October 28, about 10:20 p.m.1
A Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Cavalier collide at Dupont Boulevard and Johnson Road in Lincoln. Both drivers are taken to hospitals.
- October 291
The 19-year-old Cavalier driver dies from his injuries.
- October 301
State police publish their preliminary account and ask witnesses and people with related video to contact investigators.
What the preliminary account establishes
The vehicles approached the intersection from different directions. The Ford F-150 was traveling north on Dupont Boulevard toward Johnson Road. The Cavalier was traveling west on Johnson Road toward Dupont Boulevard. According to police, the F-150 failed to stop at the red light, and its front struck the Cavalier’s driver’s side.1
That account is specific about the pickup’s signal and the point of impact. It does not specify the traffic-signal indication facing the Cavalier. The car’s westbound direction alone cannot establish that its driver had a green light, and the police account should not be expanded to make that claim.1
Nor have investigators explained why the pickup failed to stop. The distinction matters: describing the movement that preceded a fatal collision is not the same as establishing all the circumstances behind it. The red-light finding is central to the preliminary account, but it does not make the continuing investigation a formality.
There are also limits to the timing. An earlier emergency-response account from First State Update gave an approximate dispatch time of 10:16 p.m.; state police put the crash at approximately 10:20 p.m. Those are differently described, estimated timestamps. They do not establish a precise minute-by-minute sequence or a formal correction to the police crash time.71
The roadway was closed for an extended period while investigators examined the scene and crews cleared it. Police supplied no exact duration. That closure was part of the response to the crash that night, not an announcement of a current traffic restriction.1
Witnesses and video still sought
The Delaware State Police Troop 7 Collision Reconstruction Unit is continuing the investigation. Its public request covers both people who witnessed the collision and anyone who has related video. Master Corporal K. Argo is the listed investigator contact, at 302-703-3264.1
Information can also be provided by private message to the Delaware State Police Facebook account or through Delaware Crime Stoppers at 800-847-3333. The request leaves room for evidence beyond an eyewitness’s recollection: someone with relevant footage is also being asked to come forward.1
The next substantive development would be further findings from the reconstruction or a charging decision. The October 30 release gives no completion date or court event to watch. For now, it establishes the two drivers’ outcomes and a preliminary collision sequence, while leaving the underlying circumstances unfinished.1
For people affected by the death, support need not wait for the investigation. The Delaware State Police Victim Services Unit and Delaware Victim Center offer resources for people who have lost a loved one suddenly, as well as crime victims and witnesses. Their toll-free hotline, 1-800-842-8461, is available 24 hours a day. The unit can also be reached at [email protected].1
