Fire damages two homes at von Trapp resort, displacing residents
Доступно англійською
A fire truck traveled repeatedly along Villa Drive, refilling its water tank at a nearby hydrant as crews worked at a damaged townhouse villa at the von Trapp Family Resort in Stowe, Vermont. Even after the fire was out, firefighters kept spraying water to prevent it from reigniting.1
The Wednesday evening fire on October 28 damaged two private residences and forced their occupants to relocate. No injuries were reported, according to the resort’s chief operating officer. The fire was extinguished before 9 p.m., but the residents’ displacement had no established end date.1
WPTZ identified the damaged homes as villas 11 and 12, both private residences within the same unit. That distinction matters: two homes sustained damage, but the reporting does not identify two separate burning buildings. Nor does it establish how severely either residence was damaged or put a dollar figure on the loss.1
A response lasting beyond the flames
Fire crews were called just after 7 p.m., according to WCAX. Flames had been reported coming from a resort villa, and departments from Stowe, Waterbury and Morrisville responded. The call places the emergency response on Wednesday evening; it does not establish precisely when the fire began. All times in this account are local Eastern Daylight Time.12
Walter Frame, the resort’s chief operating officer, told WCAX that everyone was safe and the fire was deemed under control by 8:30 p.m. WPTZ separately attributed the no-injury account to the lodge’s COO and reported that everyone inside was safe and all residents had been relocated. Neither report gives a headcount.12
Wednesday evening’s response
Those milestones describe different stages of the response, not competing accounts of when it ended. Frame’s statement that the fire was under control by 8:30 p.m. does not establish that it was already extinguished then. WPTZ’s later account places extinguishment before 9 p.m., without giving an exact minute.12
The work continued well beyond that point. WPTZ reported that firefighters sprayed water on the unit through 11 p.m. to keep flames from reigniting. The repeated trips to the hydrant were part of that evening’s water-supply effort. Continued spraying should not be mistaken for a report that flames remained active until 11.1
The unanswered questions are about home
The cause of the fire remains unknown in the available reporting. There are no established investigation findings or formal damage assessment, and neither local account supplies a basis for saying where within the unit the fire started or what ignited it. The approximate call time cannot answer those questions.12
For the displaced residents, the missing information is more immediate: when can they return? The reports do not establish where they were accommodated, how many people needed somewhere else to stay, or any timetable for reoccupying villas 11 and 12. Relocation confirms that everyone had to leave; it does not tell readers how long that disruption will last.1
The documented account rests on the two local reports, statements attributed to Frame and the resort’s statement about the main lodge. No incident-specific fire-service statement was available in the evidence reviewed. The safety and control statements should therefore remain attributed to the resort executive, rather than presented as findings issued by a responding fire officer.12
The immediate good news is clear: everyone inside was reported safe. But the lodge being unaffected is not the same as the incident having little consequence. Two private homes were damaged, their residents were relocated, and the extent of the loss—and the path back home—remains unsettled.1

Як в ефірі
- A fire forced residents out of two homes at the von Trapp resort.
- Both private residences sustained damage, but the resort's chief operating officer says no one was injured.
- What caused the fire, and when can the residents return home?
- The affected townhouse villa sits about half a mile from the resort's main lodge in Stowe, Vermont. The fire happened Wednesday evening, October twenty-eighth. Firefighters from Stowe, Waterbury and Morrisville responded after flames were reported coming from the villa.
- Villas eleven and twelve both sustained damage. Those are two private residences within the same unit. All residents were relocated, so the immediate consequence for the people living there was having to leave their homes.
- Resort chief operating officer Walter Frame said everyone inside was safe. The resort also said in a social-media statement that the main lodge wasn't affected. The damage was at the townhouse villa, about half a mile away.
- Crews got the call just after seven. Frame said the fire was under control by eight-thirty. Firefighters extinguished it before nine, then kept spraying water through eleven to prevent reignition. Those times are all local.
- One fire truck repeatedly traveled along Villa Drive, refilling a water tank at a nearby hydrant. Crews continued supplying water and tending to the damaged unit after the flames were out, working to keep the fire from starting again.
