  1. Flames destroyed a high school's entrance hall in Nantes. French students face interrupted lessons, damaged buildings and injuries after police apprehended 625 people during Wednesday's blockades. Will the next talks address students' resource demands while investigations establish how injured pupils were hurt?
  2. The destroyed hall belongs to Lycée Nelson Mandela in central Nantes, where flames also ravaged the façade on October 1. An allegation that the fire was intentional remains unproven by a completed investigation, and responsibility has not been established. Two Nantes high schools experienced fires, but the second school's identity and damage remain unverified.
  3. In Marseille, the entrance to Lycée Saint-Exupéry was set on fire. Another school-entrance fire was described in Rouen, without a verified school name or full damage assessment. An initial account of two lycées set ablaze is therefore not a final nationwide tally, nor necessarily an account of the same incidents. A separate allegation describes a Marseille establishment's management being doused with petrol. The establishment is unnamed, individual injuries are not established, and that allegation cannot safely be linked to Saint-Exupéry.
  4. Apprehensions and officer injuries rose between Tuesday and Wednesday; the affected-school count did not. Tuesday, September 29, brought 440 apprehensions, most described as children, and 48 police officers injured. Approximately two-thirds of those apprehended reportedly entered formal police custody, but no verified final custody tally is available. Tuesday's broader disruption count covered 400 of about 3,700 schools. A separate end-of-day count put 338 establishments still affected. Different descriptions and cutoffs explain why those figures cannot simply replace one another. Wednesday's 356 affected establishments were fewer than Tuesday's broader figure. The 625 apprehensions are Wednesday's count, not a final total for Thursday or the whole movement. Apprehension does not establish formal custody, charges or convictions; an affected school was not necessarily completely closed. The 83 wounded police officers and gendarmes are assigned to Wednesday in the available account, although corroborating descriptions do not independently settle that injury figure's reporting period.
  5. The cumulative injury figure is 119, but exactly whom it includes needs clarification. Some descriptions count lycée pupils alone; others include education personnel. The figure covers the period since unrest began, not Wednesday alone, and its exact reporting cutoff remains unconfirmed. A separate Wednesday minimum of at least 32 injured pupils and staff has not been independently verified. These figures must not be added: the daily count may already be included in the cumulative one.
  6. Approximately 30 faculties have joined the mobilisation—not necessarily 30 entire universities under blockade. That more specific description narrows an earlier account of about 30 universities blocked: participation does not establish complete closure. The movement has spread from Île-de-France, including Paris, to Lille, Lyon and Bordeaux, with blockades also in Marseille, Rennes and Nantes. More than 400 actions took place Thursday, but actions are not unique schools or university closures. In Île-de-France, more than 200 lycées were disrupted; about 50 experienced violence. Violence at that smaller group should not be applied to every disrupted school. Thursday's departmental figures add detail, not a final national total. An afternoon update put Bouches-du-Rhône at 84 apprehensions, including 29 in Marseille, and more than 20 people injured. The 29 are already inside the 84; those injured were not all identified as pupils. Loire-Atlantique separately recorded 35 apprehensions and nine damaged establishments. Neither snapshot can be added to Wednesday's national count to produce a definitive cumulative total.
  7. Students are demanding replacement teachers, smaller classes and usable facilities. Their complaints include staff shortages, absent teachers who are not replaced, overcrowding, deteriorating buildings and long timetables. Classes of 32 to 35 pupils are examples cited by the student-union president, not a verified national average. Ryad Rani is president of the Union syndicale lycéenne, or USL. His September 30 challenge to Education Minister Édouard Geffray concerns whether existing dialogue channels are genuinely available and functioning. That disagreement remains unresolved, and the union's call for continued blockades makes an invitation to talks different from a settlement.
  8. Burning bins and thrown projectiles marked Tuesday's confrontations in Lille. Pupils threw bottles, paving stones and other objects at police; bins and electric bikes also burned during the wider mobilisation. Seven alleged hydrochloric-acid incidents against officers lack a case-by-case forensic account establishing the substances, perpetrators or resulting injuries.
  9. Police used tear gas in Lille and Lyon, and baton strikes against teenagers were reported near Paris. Other confrontations involved reported baton use and rubber bullets. These accounts do not establish the legality of every use of force, or that police action caused every injury.
  10. Three investigations concern possible police violence during school blockades. The investigating body is the IGPN, the national police inspectorate—not an established external judicial commission, as earlier wording about independent investigations might suggest. The injuries under scrutiny include a pupil with broken teeth in Val-d'Oise and another with an eye injury in Tours. Possible use of LBD launchers, which fire defensive projectiles, is also being examined. The full inventory of the three cases, individual circumstances and links between particular weapons and injuries remain unknown. Opening an investigation is not proof of unlawful force, nor grounds for dismissing the injuries.
  11. Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu convened a crisis meeting at Matignon on Thursday and asked ministers to cancel travel or public engagements, with security forces already stretched. Emmanuel Macron condemned the violence. Claims that outsiders hijacked some demonstrations, including people who were not pupils at the schools concerned, remain contested.
  12. No verified evidence establishes that one political actor directed the violence. The accusations run in both directions: government repression and presidential approval of police violence on one side; political orchestration of protest violence on the other. The competing fragments about repression and irresponsible escalation date from September 28, before Tuesday's and Wednesday's totals. They are not newly made October 1 statements. Neither those accusations nor the outsider explanation establishes who caused each clash or fire. Students' demands for educational resources remain distinct from that political dispute.
  13. The supported proposal is 54 billion euros in savings for the 2027 budget, not 54 million. The earlier million-euro description differs by a factor of a thousand; its exact passage and the reason for the discrepancy remain unresolved. These are proposed savings, not money already removed from schools. No verified breakdown isolates the education allocation or establishes that all 54 billion euros would fall on education. The school mobilisation coincided with a nationwide public-sector strike against the proposed budget. An estimated 40 percent of primary teachers stopped work Tuesday—not 40 percent of all teachers, secondary-school pupils or blockaded schools. Lecornu's warning of a deficit reaching 6.5 percent without cost-cutting is a conditional forecast, not an observed deficit or proof that school-resource cuts are necessary. A budget presentation was expected on October 1, but its completion and final education provisions are not confirmed.
  14. No negotiated settlement is established, and the investigations have not determined how the injured pupils were hurt. Whether talks will deliver concrete changes to staffing, teacher replacements, class sizes or damaged schools remains unresolved. USL's call for an act two on Thursday was followed by further mobilisation, but that does not establish that the union organised every action.
  15. Several establishments are expected to remain closed Friday, October 2; the complete list and duration are not established. Geffray is expected to receive student associations that day. Neither the invitation nor restored access to classrooms establishes that the resource complaints have been resolved. USL has also called for a larger youth demonstration on October 6.
