Two days after a three-vehicle crash sent an SUV into a Williamsport car dealership, the available police account leaves responsibility unresolved. Two drivers and a child were taken to UPMC Williamsport for evaluation after the Tuesday, November 3, collision. An officer at the scene said none had life-threatening injuries, but no subsequent patient-status information has been established.41

The crash happened at Third and Locust streets shortly before 11:30 a.m. The SUV struck the side of Van Campen Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge and Ram along Locust Street, carrying the consequences of the collision beyond the intersection and into a business building. The extent of that damage remains unverified.1

The account comes from an unnamed city police officer quoted by the Williamsport Sun-Gazette. The newspaper’s original November 3 report and its November 5 version give the same essential details: three vehicles were involved, an SUV hit the dealership, and two drivers and a child were transported for evaluation. The later publication date does not move the crash to Thursday; both reports describe Tuesday morning.41

A red light, but no finding

The officer said one vehicle ran a red light. In the same account, however, the officer said fault had not been determined and that police planned to review surveillance footage. Those statements need to be read together: police described a signal violation, not a completed finding against an identified driver.1

The available report does not identify which vehicle crossed the red light. In particular, it does not link that violation to the SUV that struck the dealership. A vehicle’s final point of impact is not, on its own, an explanation of how a three-vehicle collision began. Assigning blame to the SUV’s driver would go beyond what the officer said.1

Surveillance footage is therefore the next source of evidence police identified for clarifying the sequence. No findings from that review or final determination of fault have been established in the available reporting. The officer’s plan to examine video should not be mistaken for an announcement that the review has been completed.41

There is also a location inconsistency in how the story circulated. A November 3 Cedar News headline carried by Daily8 refers to a Fourth Street crash, and the original Sun-Gazette web address contains similar wording. But the full Sun-Gazette article published November 3 identifies Third and Locust streets, as does its November 5 account. Those complete original reports support Third and Locust—not a second crash site at Fourth Street.741

What the initial assessment leaves open

The hospital transport count is clear; the patients’ subsequent conditions are not. “For evaluation” describes why the two drivers and the child were taken to UPMC Williamsport. It does not establish their diagnoses, whether any were admitted, or whether they have since been discharged. The officer’s assessment that none had life-threatening injuries is reassuring, but it is not a statement that all three were unhurt.1

The dealership impact has a similar limit. The reporting establishes that the SUV struck the side of the building, but it provides no verified structural assessment or repair estimate. It also does not establish an evacuation, a building-access restriction or a business closure. Describing the impact as confirmed is warranted; describing the building as either structurally unsafe or cleared for entry is not.41

No current street closure, detour or reopening time has been verified either. That gap should not be read as confirmation that traffic is unrestricted. For now, the outstanding consequences are specific: the condition of the three people taken for evaluation, the condition of the building, and whether the planned surveillance review establishes the collision sequence and responsibility.
