Entreprises · Entreprise autochtoneDe la remise familiale à la rue principale de Ceduna, deux frères créent une entreprise de barbierRédigé 6 novembre 2026 à 21:16 UTCRegarderTranscription0:07Two brothers have turned a backyard haircutting operation into a main street shop.0:12Chiray and Terrian Coleman Ware now run a business in the South Australian town0:17where they grew up.0:18It's reportedly Seduna's first barber shop in nearly fifty years.0:22What's changed for local customers, and what does that decades-long gap really tell0:27us?0:27The brothers have moved their work out of the family shed and onto Seduna's Main0:32Street.0:32They bring customers who already know their haircuts, along with qualifications0:37earned through a local training opportunity.0:39The business is also reportedly the Main Street's only one hundred percent0:43aboriginal-owned and operated shop.0:45That claim covers shops on the main street.0:48The brothers' business sits within a longer local history of people getting their0:52hair cut.0:53The Walkabout Barber provided free haircuts in Seduna in July2022 .0:58That visiting service gave residents access to barbering between permanent shops.1:03So the nearly fifty-year claim can't tell us how long people went without a haircut.1:08Or what other hairdressing services they used.1:11Chiray was fifteen when he first picked up the clippers.1:14He and the boys around him took turns cutting each other's hair.1:18He enjoyed it more than the others, and eventually began cutting people's hair in1:22the shed at the family home.1:24Chiray remembers the practical need behind those early haircuts.1:27He said, Just growing up with all the brothers and all that, there was no one to cut1:32our hair, so we just take it in turns cutting each other's hair.1:36Younger brother Cheryan watched him work.1:38Chirai heard about the training opportunity in twenty twenty-four.1:41Both brothers completed their certificate three in beauty and barbering in twenty1:46twenty-five, then received their qualifications in twenty twenty-six.1:50They already wanted to open a shop of their own.1:52Seduna Aboriginal Corporation offered the course to local people.1:56It's a community-controlled, not-for-profit organization working towards social and2:01economic reform for Aboriginal people in the region.2:04Chirai recalled their determination to finish, saying.2:07We pretty much flew through everything as quick as we could.2:10A shop came up for lease about two months before November2026 , and the brothers2:16decided to take the opportunity.2:17By November, they were running the premises.2:20Cherrian felt the risk was worthwhile, and said people in the community were showing2:25them love.2:25Cheryan describes the reward in local terms.2:29It's nice running a shop in the town that you grew up in.2:32I guess.2:33The brothers have brought their skills back to people who knew them before they had2:37premises.2:37Daniel Newchurch Laurie has had his hair cut by the brothers since their earliest2:42efforts.2:43He remembers Chiray practicing on cousins, beginning with straightforward haircuts2:48and becoming more technically accomplished.2:51Friends and relatives would ask him for a cut before football started.2:55Those relationships now carry into the shop.2:58Customers who once asked a relative or a friend for a haircut can come to the3:03brothers' own premises.3:05The change brings their homegrown experience.3:07And formal training together in a business they operate themselves.3:11A younger cousin helps sweep the shop floors after school.3:15On the counter, a stand sells earrings made by the brother's mother and little3:20sister.3:21Family members have small practical roles in the business's daily life.3:25For Chira,3:26the reward comes when someone leaves the chair feeling better about themselves.3:31He likes helping customers who arrive unhappy with how their hair looks, as he puts3:36it, and then after leaving the chair, they feel better about themselves.Lire l’articleChronologie de l’histoireHeyDex
