workplace.0:10A third worker was hurt.0:12The shooting happened on the second floor of the main post office in Des Moines,0:17just north of downtown.0:18Police detained the suspected shooter outside the building, under the nearby0:23Interstate two thirty-five bridge.0:25Police say the suspect is an adult woman who worked at the postal facility.0:30Witnesses helped point her out to officers.0:33The three injured workers were two women and one man.0:37Two employees suffered gunshot wounds.0:40One more was injured in a fall while escaping the gunfire.0:43All three worked at the facility, and all three were being treated at local0:48hospitals.0:48Des Moines Police Sergeant Paul Perizek said the injuries didn't appear0:52life-threatening.0:54That was his early assessment while the workers were receiving care.0:58He said, They're all at the hospital.1:00They are being cared for right now.1:02The four-story building houses a regional mail sorting operation.1:06And a public walk-in service counter.1:09The gunfire occurred in an employee-only area upstairs.1:12Mercy One Medical Center stands across the street, and some injured workers made1:17their own way to hospital.1:19Multiple emergency calls came from inside the building.1:22Des Moines Police responded alongside Pleasant Hill Police, the Polk County1:27Sheriff's Office, and the Iowa State Patrol.1:30Officers searched the building and declared the scene secure.1:34Police received the shooting calls around nine ten Thursday morning, November5.1:39The response unfolded before nearby school district buildings reopened at ten that1:44morning.1:44The evening time circulating for this shooting conflicts with that sequence.1:48Perozek said officers were at the scene within three minutes of the report.1:53Another first officer estimate was three and a half minutes after dispatch.1:58Those intervals used different starting descriptions, but both put officers there2:03within minutes.2:04Police put the woman's detention eleven minutes after the initial report.2:09Witnesses helped identify her near the post office.2:12Probation patrol officers were involved in taking her into custody in the bridge2:17area, also described as a nearby bike trail.2:20The school precautions reached three nearby buildings.2:23Around nine twenty, police notified Des Moines Public Schools and Carver Elementary2:29School, the district's welcome center, and its central nutrition center entered2:34secure status.2:35That meant nobody could enter or leave those buildings.2:38The district received word of a suspect in custody nearby at nine thirty.2:43Police gave the all clear for entry and exit at ten, and the district lifted secure2:48at all three buildings.2:49Those were precautionary restrictions following the post office shooting.2:54The district's custody notification came after the detention described by police.2:59Officers had already taken the woman into custody eleven minutes.3:03After the first shooting report, Governor Kim Reynolds contacted the Department of3:07Public Safety and confirmed custody.3:10Mayor Connie Bosan praised the rapid response.3:13Senator Chuck Grassley thanked first responders.3:16Both the mayor and senator expressed concern for those affected, while Perizek3:20described the workers' hospital care.3:22Reynolds said, The suspected shooter is in custody, and the investigation is3:27ongoing.3:28Bosun said her concern was for the injured and everyone else affected by the3:32violence.3:33By about noon, the woman remained in custody, and the neighboring district buildings3:38had resumed entry and exit.3:40Police hadn't publicly identified the suspect.3:43The three injured employees were receiving hospital treatment, with police still3:48describing their injuries as apparently non-life-threatening.3:52Officers had secured the building, but police hadn't said what led to the gunfire.קריאת הכתבהציר הזמן
