A family has lost a loved one, and four other people were reported injured after a fatal incident on Goliath at Six Flags Over Georgia on October 12, 2026. Riders described watching a man fall from the coaster and trying, unsuccessfully, to grab him. His identity has not been publicly established in the reporting reviewed through October 13, and the injured riders’ medical conditions remain undisclosed.5271
The consequences have spread beyond the Georgia park: Six Flags temporarily closed selected similar attractions, with nine roller coasters across six parks reported shut. That is a substantial safety response. It is not, however, a finding that Goliath’s equipment failed—or that another closed ride has a defect. The central question remains unanswered: how did the man come out of his seat?78
The emergency happened just before 4 p.m. at the park in Austell, in Cobb County near Atlanta. Approximately 3:58 p.m. appears in other accounts, but the directly recovered police-attributed wording is less precise. Officers assigned to the park and uniformed patrol officers responded; Cobb County Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating. Goliath stopped and its riders were evacuated, with accounts describing the train halted on an incline. A complete evacuation timetable and the number aboard have not been established.3670313
ABC News and WSB-TV reported four other people injured. Police and other accounts used “several,” a compatible description rather than a competing total. What is missing is a detailed injury accounting: the patients’ conditions, diagnoses and complete circumstances have not been disclosed. There is no basis for calling the injuries minor or assuming that those hurt have recovered.5694
What witnesses saw—and what remains unproven
Reporting differs on what officials confirmed about the fatal event. ABC News’s October 13 report attributed to police the account that the man was killed after being “thrown” from Goliath. CTV News’s report published the same day said officials had not confirmed how he died. The Guardian’s earlier October 13 account also left the mechanism unconfirmed; it preceded the later broadcasts. The available police statement confirms a fatal roller-coaster incident and an investigation, but does not explain how the man left his seat. No final determination of the cause of death or the mechanism of the fall has been announced.31436
Two riders interviewed by ABC News, seated three rows behind the man, said he struck their coaster car and that other riders tried to grab him but could not. Another witness account, reported by CNN, said he “hit the car three different times” before falling onto a roof. Accounts described the roof as part of a nearby haunted-house attraction. These are witness observations, not a confirmed reconstruction of the trajectory.2913
A witness also said the incident “was in our pictures,” referring to souvenir ride photographs. No authenticated photograph or official analysis of those images has been established in the available reporting. Such images could help reconstruct the sequence, but the account of their existence does not establish why the man fell.30
Emergency-radio traffic described two children in the man’s row being struck by his body. That may explain some injuries; it does not account for all four injured people. Other witness reporting described him sitting with a child or son, but the relationship and seating arrangement have not been confirmed. Those accounts cannot responsibly be assembled into a family identification.313
The restraint accounts require the same care. The two riders behind the man said the restraint on their own seat repeatedly clicked before departure and that employees checked it more than usual. They were not describing the deceased rider’s seat. No verified inspection finding connects those checks to his fall.2
A separate witness described the man’s restraint when the train returned as “completely unlatched and unlocked.” That is not an official equipment finding. Its reported appearance afterward does not establish its condition at departure, when it opened or why. Investigators have not publicly established restraint failure, operator error, rider conduct or another causal explanation.7336
Goliath is a steel hypercoaster manufactured by Bolliger & Mabillard that opened in 2006. Each seat has an individual lap-bar restraint. Its advertised height of 200 feet and top speed of 70 mph describe the attraction—not the man’s fall height or the train’s speed during the incident. Each train can hold 36 riders, but capacity is not an incident passenger count. Those specifications identify the equipment involved; they do not tell us whether it functioned correctly on this ride.54525
A wider shutdown, not a verdict
Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily closed similar attractions across our parks.
The reported nine-coaster, six-park tally is supported by Associated Press and Guardian reporting, with CNN also reporting nine rides. A WSB-TV headline instead says six rides, without explaining whether that is an earlier or narrower count. No complete company-issued roster resolves the difference or establishes consistently whether Georgia’s stopped Goliath is included. The figures should not be added together.7498
Named closures independently linked to the Georgia incident include Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois, and Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Southern California. CityNews also confirmed two coaster closures at Canada’s Wonderland in Ontario, although its available excerpt did not name the rides. These examples do not constitute a complete nine-ride roster. Matching ride names, meanwhile, do not establish identical designs, restraints or a shared defective component.64651263
Later broadcasts described similar rides as closed at all the company’s parks. That wording should not become a claim that every park—or every coaster—was shut. The action concerns selected similar attractions. No reopening timetable or state inspection finding is available in the reporting reviewed through October 13; that means neither a defect nor an inspection clearance has been established here.386463
Six Flags said it was cooperating fully with local authorities and supporting affected guests and employees. It expressed condolences and said it would withhold additional details out of respect for the family’s privacy. Cobb County commission chairwoman Lisa Cupid said, “It is my understanding that next of kin have been notified.” Her qualification matters: it is not a separate police confirmation. She said law enforcement would release additional information as it was confirmed.3668
Protecting a family’s personal information and explaining a fatal ride incident are different responsibilities. The decisive next findings concern the condition of the man’s restraint, the sequence that put him outside the car and how other riders were injured. No deadline has been announced. The shutdowns keep selected attractions out of operation while those questions remain open; they have not answered them.

- A man died on Goliath, and Six Flags shut similar coasters across its parks.
- Four other people were reported injured. Nine roller coasters across six parks were reported temporarily closed, affecting guests and workers beyond Georgia. Investigators now face the question at the center of those shutdowns: how did the man come out of the ride?
- Goliath stopped, and its riders were evacuated. Witnesses described the train stopped on an incline. Officers assigned to the park and uniformed patrol officers responded to the emergency.
- The emergency happened just before four in the afternoon on October twelfth, twenty twenty-six. Six Flags Over Georgia is in Austell, in Cobb County near Atlanta. Cobb County Police Department's Major Crimes Unit is investigating.
- Police confirmed one death and several injuries. The reported count of four injured people fits that description, but their medical conditions haven't been released.
- Witnesses say the man fell from his seat. Police's public statement confirms a fatal roller-coaster incident, but doesn't explain how he came out. Words like thrown or launched leave the cause unanswered.
- Two riders seated three rows behind the man said he struck their coaster car. They said other riders tried to grab him but couldn't. Another witness said he hit the car three times before falling onto a roof, described as part of a nearby haunted-house attraction.
- A witness also said the incident “was in our pictures,” referring to souvenir ride photographs. Investigators haven't publicly authenticated those images or confirmed the witness-described landing location.
- Emergency-radio accounts described two children in the man's row being struck by his body. That leaves the circumstances of the other reported injuries unclear. Witnesses also described a child sitting with him, but authorities haven't confirmed their relationship.
- The two riders behind the man said their own restraint repeatedly clicked before departure. They said employees checked it more than usual. They were describing their own seat, and investigators haven't connected those checks to the man's fall.
- A separate witness described the man's restraint when the train returned as “completely unlatched and unlocked.” That observation doesn't tell investigators its condition at departure, when it opened, or why. Police haven't announced a finding that a restraint failed.
- Goliath uses an individual lap bar at each seat. Bolliger and Mabillard manufactured the steel coaster, which opened in two thousand six. It's a hypercoaster, a class of tall roller coaster, and it has no upside-down sections.
- The ride's advertised height is two hundred feet, and its advertised top speed is seventy miles an hour. Those figures describe the attraction. Investigators haven't disclosed the man's fall height or the train's speed during the incident.
- The track runs about four thousand four hundred eighty feet. A normal ride lasts about three minutes and thirty seconds. The stated minimum rider height is fifty-four inches.
- Goliath has two trains, each with nine cars. Each car holds one row of four seats, giving each train thirty-six seats. Those are capacity figures. Police haven't released the number of people aboard during the emergency.
- Six Flags says it temporarily closed similar attractions “out of an abundance of caution.” The company is suspending selected rides while authorities investigate. Investigators haven't announced a mechanical defect behind the Georgia death or linked the closed attractions to a defective component.
- The reported closure count differs: nine coasters in the broader tally, six rides in another account. Nobody has explained that difference, or whether the six-park tally includes Georgia. Six Flags hasn't supplied a complete roster that reconciles the counts.
- Raging Bull closed at Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Illinois. Two coasters also closed at Canada's Wonderland in Ontario. These are examples of the wider response, rather than a complete list of the nine reported closures.
- Other reported closures include Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Southern California, and Nitro at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey. Leviathan and Behemoth are the named examples at Canada's Wonderland. Matching names alone don't tell investigators whether rides share the same equipment.
- Six Flags says it's supporting affected guests and employees and cooperating fully with local authorities. The company expressed condolences to the man's family and said it was withholding further details out of respect for their privacy.
- Cobb County chairwoman Lisa Cupid said it was her understanding that next of kin had been notified. She said the county was working with the park and other partners, and law enforcement would release information as it was confirmed.
- The man's identity hadn't been publicly released by the October thirteenth updates. Investigators still haven't explained the sequence that put him outside the car. They haven't announced a deadline for findings, and the affected rides have no announced reopening timetable.
