Politiek · Veterans and procurementCanada CRA security contract: Commissionaires lose $12M award, reversal defeatedUitgezonden 8 november 2026 om 18:17 UTCKijkenTranscript0:07Commissionaires lost a twelve million dollar federal security contract.0:10The organization employs veterans, and a conservative attempt to reverse the award0:13has been defeated.0:14Workers' livelihoods are at stake, but the number whose employment changed is still0:18unknown.0:19How many workers kept comparable jobs when the contract changed hands?0:22The Canada Revenue Agency awarded the Security Work to Universal Protection Service0:26of Canada.0:27It's a Canadian subsidiary of Allied Universal, which is based in the United States.0:31Commissionaires warns that losing the work could hurt veteran employment.0:35The award dates back to June.0:37The federal contract disclosure lists June16,2020 ,6 , as the start date and0:43describes the purchase as competitively sourced.0:45It identifies the work as protection services under a standing offer or supply0:49arrangement.0:49The award is reportedly worth11,916 ,604 Canadian dollars.0:56That's about twelve million.0:57The scheduled term runs through June fifteenth,2028 , giving the contract a reach1:03well beyond the immediate political dispute.1:05Commissionaires helps veterans move into civilian employment.1:07Its concern reaches beyond one commercial loss because government security work1:11supports that employment role.1:12But the organization's federal workforce is much larger than the group attached to1:16this particular contract.1:17Commissionaire says about eight thousand of its personnel serve the federal1:20government, including two thousand veterans.1:22Those figures cover its wider federal workforce.1:25They don't tell us how many people worked on the CRA contract or lost work when it1:28moved.1:29Allied Universal says it hired several commissionaires employees.1:32That means some workers continued with the successor company, even as1:35commissionaires warned about employment consequences.1:37The company's statement doesn't tell us whether those workers kept comparable pay1:41and conditions.1:42A commissionaire's representative put the price difference at zero point eight1:45percent.1:46The bids were also reportedly just over eighty thousand Canadian dollars apart, and1:50less than one percent apart.1:51Those descriptions haven't been reconciled against the complete bids.1:54Commissionaires argues that veteran employment was given too little weight over that1:58narrow margin, but a difference between bid prices doesn't measure the government's2:02eventual net savings or account for what happens to the workers.2:05The government described the selection as a combined assessment of technology,2:08merit, and price.2:09A liberal representative defended the process as independent of politicians.2:13That puts the dispute on how federal purchasing weighs veteran employment alongside2:17its other objectives.2:18The reported price gap alone can't explain the full selection decision.2:21Commissionaires is challenging the weight given to its employment mission, while the2:25government is defending a competitive procurement process.2:28Conservatives tried to cancel the CRA award and redirect the work.2:31The contract reached a House of Commons procurement debate on November second,2026 .2:36The proposal was defeated, leaving the award unreversed by that parliamentary2:40effort.2:40Commissionaires also warns that it will lose first refusal on most federal2:44contracts.2:44That's a wider concern than this single award.2:46Its privileged position in Federal Guard procurement, including sole source work,2:51dates back to1945.2:53First refusal has helped give commissionaires access to federal guard work.2:56The organization says that access is narrowing.2:59Which contracts would lose that protection, and when still isn't clear, so its3:03warning reaches beyond the CRA workers affected already.3:10The contract has changed hands, and Allied Universal says some commissionaires'3:14employees joined it.3:15Nobody has given a full count of the affected workers who kept comparable3:18employment.3:19The unresolved measure is how many people kept their livelihoods, pay and conditions3:23when the employer changed.Tijdlijn van het verhaalHeyDex
