One man killed in Kajang tank explosion; cause still unexplained
Dostępne po angielsku
One man died in the tank explosion at a scrap factory in Kajang, Malaysia, on October 23, 2026. He was 49, and firefighters found him severely injured and bleeding heavily. The emergency operation is over, but the central question is not: why did a tank fail during work, with fatal consequences for the man nearby?12
A preliminary police finding has narrowed one part of the inquiry without explaining the explosion. Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said initial investigations found “no criminal elements,” according to the New Straits Times. That is not a finding about the tank’s condition, the adequacy of workplace safeguards or responsibility for the death.6
The clearest account of the immediate aftermath comes from published reports reproducing a statement by Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant operations director Ashrul Riezal Asbar. Sinar Harian reported that five personnel and officers were dispatched from Kajang Fire and Rescue Station with one engine to a site approximately five kilometres away. Oriental Daily described the vehicle as a light fire engine.128
At about 12.50pm, the victim, who had sustained severe injuries to his waist and was bleeding heavily, was pronounced dead at the scene by a Health Ministry medical officer.
That time—approximately 12:50 p.m.—records the pronouncement at the scene. It does not establish the exact moment the man died, and it is not the time of the explosion. The fire service said only one person was involved. It ended its operation shortly afterwards and handed further action to the relevant agencies.1
Two call times, one response
The published emergency timeline contains an unresolved three-minute discrepancy. The Star’s October 23 account says the department received the report at 11:50 a.m. Sinar Harian’s report on the same date gives 11:53 a.m. Both attribute their accounts to Ashrul Riezal. These are competing versions of the same emergency-call time, not evidence of two separate calls.12
The discrepancy deserves to remain visible rather than be smoothed into a single, falsely precise chronology. But it cannot bear more weight than the evidence gives it. Those three minutes alone establish neither a failure in the emergency response nor a cause of the man’s death.
The work before the explosion
The premises were described as a scrap-goods or scrap-disposal factory, not a public gas-supply facility. Fire-service accounts place welding activity there; a police-related report in Harian Metro describes scrap-metal maintenance. Those descriptions supply context, but neither resolves the precise task the man was performing or the sequence immediately before the tank failed.127
Nor does the label “helium tank” explain the mechanism. The available reporting contains no independently verified account of the tank’s contents at that moment and no technical finding establishing why it exploded. It would be premature to turn the description of the object into a conclusion about what caused its failure.68
The man was described as local, but his name has not been established in the available reporting. Oriental Daily identified the business as Green Force Sustainability; that identification has not been independently confirmed by an official document available to this report. No complete premises address has been established beyond the factory’s location on Persiaran Sungai Chua.128
Police and other relevant departments were reported to be investigating further. The available record does not establish a formal referral to Malaysia’s Department of Occupational Safety and Health, also known as JKKP, or any subsequent technical findings. That gap should not be mistaken for proof that no later inquiry or finding exists.68

- A tank explosion killed a 49-year-old man at a scrap factory. Firefighters found him severely injured and bleeding heavily. He was believed to have been welding when the tank exploded. Investigators still have to explain what caused the fatal failure.
- The factory is on Persiaran Sungai Chua in Kajang, in Malaysia's Selangor state. The premises were used for scrap goods and scrap disposal. The fire service described the site as about five kilometres from the responding Kajang station.
- The explosion happened on October 23, 2026. Five fire-service personnel and officers were sent from Kajang Fire and Rescue Station with one engine. The vehicle was described as a light fire engine.
- The emergency-call time is disputed. One account gives eleven fifty in the morning, and another gives eleven fifty-three. Both put firefighters at the scene at noon. The two times describe the same emergency call, and nobody has resolved the three-minute difference.
- The eleven fifty-three version describes crews arriving seven minutes later. The earlier call time also places their arrival at noon. Those times describe the emergency response, while the exact time of the explosion remains unclear.
- Firefighters arrived at about noon and found the man with severe injuries around his waist and lower body. At about twelve fifty, a Health Ministry medical officer pronounced him dead at the scene. That was the time of the medical pronouncement.
- The fire service said only one person was involved. It ended its operation shortly afterwards and handed further action to the relevant agencies.
- The business is reportedly Green Force Sustainability, though officials haven't confirmed that identification. Fire officials described welding work at the premises. Police described scrap-metal maintenance. The precise task, including what the man was welding, is still unclear.
- Ashrul Riezal Asbar, Selangor's assistant fire-service operations director, described the response. Kajang police chief Naazron Abdul Yusof said initial investigations found no criminal elements. Police and other relevant departments were carrying out further investigation.
- Fire officials described the object as a helium tank. Investigators haven't explained why it exploded, and the police finding leaves workplace safety and responsibility unresolved.
