five firearm pellets from a young cheetah, but couldn't save0:11him.0:11KNG20,2 was19 months old.0:14His death has triggered central and state investigations into the protection of0:17India's reintroduced cheetahs.0:19Investigators now have to determine who fired and whether the cheetahs protection0:23system failed.0:23The Environment Ministry announced its on ground investigation on October28,2026 .0:28The central team includes the National Tiger Conservation Authority's Inspector0:32General of Forests.0:33An additional director and a regional deputy director from the Wildlife Crime0:37Control Bureau will join the inquiry.0:39Their work extends to security protocols, tracking and protection arrangements0:42beyond Kuno National Park.0:44KNG202 was reportedly rescued around one hundred kilometers beyond Kuno's boundaries0:49in Morana Forest Division.0:51Later, official statements named Shiopur Forest Division instead.0:54Officials haven't reconciled those locations, and the rescue site wouldn't0:57necessarily identify where someone fired at him.0:59Several contemporary accounts place the rescue in Marana's Paragar range.1:02Madhya Pradesh had already formed a special task force of forest and police1:06officers.1:07The central team will work with that inquiry and the state's Forest Department1:10examining the circumstances of the death and the evidence.1:12Chief Wildlife Warden Samita Rajora said the injured cheetah was taken to Kuno, then1:17referred to a veterinary university in Jabalpur.1:19Her October twenty-seven statement described detailed investigation and intensive1:24treatment.1:24Surgery removed the pellets, but the animal died.1:27KNG twenty two was reportedly rescued on October twenty five and died on October1:31twenty-seven, although October twenty-eight has also been given as the death date.1:35Officials haven't reconciled the timing or the place of death with conflicting1:38descriptions involving Jabalpur, Kuno, and Shiapur.1:42The environment ministry identified multiple internal injuries associated with the1:45recovered pellets.1:46Investigators are examining whether a locally made firearm was used.1:50Nobody has been identified as the shooter, and a motive hasn't been determined.1:53Hunting and retaliation have both entered the debate, but investigators haven't1:57connected this death to livestock or any nearby community.2:01KNG202 was born in India to Nerva, a cheetah brought from South Africa in2:05February2023 .2:07Project Cheetah's first African arrivals came in September2020 , to to establish2:12populations in selected central Indian habitats.2:14The African animals belong to a different subspecies from the Asiatic cheetahs2:18hunted to extinction in India in the1950 seconds.2:22Kuno covers seven hundred and forty eight square kilometers with unfenced2:26boundaries.2:26Before the introductions, scientists warned that wide-ranging cheetahs would enter2:30villages, farmland, and other places people use.2:33Ravi Chelem and seven other scientists challenged the government's earlier estimate2:37of how many cheetahs Kuno could support.2:39Carnivore scientist Ullaz Karant and population expert Arjun Jopaliswamy joined that2:43challenge shortly after the first introductions.2:45The estimate used prey availability to put capacity at twenty one cheetahs, roughly2:50three per hour hundred square kilometers.2:52The scientists argued that adding animals would push cheetahs outside the park,2:55risking conflict with people and cheetah deaths.2:58That historical estimate wasn't a measurement of today's safe population size.3:02Chelem argues that Kuno is too small to establish a wild cheetah population.3:06In March2020, Five, people threw stones at Guala and her four cubs after they tried3:11to hunt a calf outside Kuno.3:13That August, authorities captured Joala after she killed a goat in a village near3:16Ranthambore Tiger Reserve in Rajasthan.3:19Guilla had crossed human, used landscapes from Kuno, and officials returned her to3:23the park.3:23Those encounters show the risks beyond a reserve's boundary.3:26Investigators haven't linked them to KNG20.2's death.3:29Chelem called the death a management failure in the much-discussed round, the clock3:33monitoring of free-ranging cheetahs.3:35That's his assessment.3:36The central inquiry will examine the monitoring and protection arrangements,3:39including whether failures contributed to this death.3:41The protection question reaches people as well as wildlife.3:44A cheetah outside a reserve needs protection, while families living alongside it3:48need effective responses when animals reach livestock and farmland.3:51The inquiry has to connect the pellet injuries with KNG20,2 movements and the3:56tracking and response records.3:57India reportedly has fifty-eight cheetahs after this death, with fifty-two at Kuno,4:02four at Gandhi Sagar, and two at Virangana Durgavadi.4:05Those totals include animals whose enclosure or free-ranging status isn't specified,4:09so they can't demonstrate overcrowding caused this death.4:12The pellet injuries explain why KNG202 died, who fired, where it happened, and4:17whether protection failures contributed still await findings.4:20The central team must send its findings and recommendations to the environment4:24ministry for directions to state and field authorities.4:27The ministry hasn't announced a deadline.Explore with HeyDexFollow via RSS
