write-upThis storyTranscript · LOADING0:07GMO is offering five thousand yen to service users even if they lost no money.0:11Customers whose trading accounts were manipulated also face a separate question0:15about recovering their losses.0:16The parent company's shares have fallen about sixteen percent.0:19How much qualifying trading loss will GMO repay?0:21And when will customers receive the money?0:23The five thousand yen, about thirty two US dollars, goes to users of Oname.0:29Calm Desktop Cloud that includes users without financial damage.0:32DMO has separately promised compensation for qualifying losses from unauthorized0:36trading connected to the intrusion.0:38Desktop Cloud supplies a virtual private server, a remotely hosted computer that0:42customers use to run automated foreign exchange trading tools.0:45GMO Internet operates it.0:47The Goodwill offer covers users of that service.0:49Customers across the group's other foreign exchange businesses don't automatically0:53qualify.0:53The exact eligibility cutoff still needs clarification.0:57GMO found unauthorized programs in some customer server environments on October201:01th.1:01It formally announced compensation on October24.1:04Group Chief Executive Masato Si Kumagai publicized the response in a blog the1:08following day.1:09After the payment promise was already public, the company issued earlier incident1:13announcements on October21 and22nd, followed by a third report on the twenty-third.1:18A fourth followed on the twenty-fourth.1:20Unauthorized third-party access to desktop cloud is confirmed.1:24The October twentieth discovery doesn't tell customers when the intrusion began.1:27Unauthorized operations involving trading accounts were also reported.1:31Kumagai described the goodwill payment as an initial gesture of good faith.1:34He said it recognized customers' inconvenience and worry, and rejected treating it1:38as closure.1:39His response left the separate commitment to compensate unauthorized trading losses1:43in place.1:43GMO Geica said on October twenty-third that it had received reports involving1:47trading tools running on desktop cloud, but it hadn't confirmed related unauthorized1:51operations in its own customers' accounts.1:53Its October twenty-sixth notice maintained that position.1:56That narrower statement leaves other customers' experiences and compensation claims2:00to be assessed.2:01GMO told customers to urgently change passwords for their trading accounts and2:04trading tools.2:05It also told them to terminate logged in sessions.2:08Customers were instructed to make those changes from a different device, with a2:11smartphone given as an example.2:13GMO Geika also urged customers to check their past key settings and review trade and2:17order histories, open positions, and balances.2:20It said its service prohibited external automated trading tools and programs.2:24Those instructions were issued during the incident response.2:26They don't confirm that the intrusion has been contained.2:29The listed parents' shares fell sharply in Tokyo.2:32That's GMO Internet Group, which trades under code9,4 4 ,9 .2:36The desktop cloud operator, GMO Internet, is a separate listed subsidiary.2:41Its stock code is four seven eight four.2:44The parent's decline deepened through the October twenty-six session.2:48An eleven percent morning fall was an early snapshot of a day that ended2:51substantially lower.2:52Assigning that move to the subsidiary would confuse two different stocks, just as2:56treating the morning figure as the closing result would miss the later selling.3:00The parent traded as low as three thousand three hundred and fifty, one yen in the3:04morning, down eleven point zero nine percent.3:06It closed at three thousand one hundred and seventy.3:08Nine yen, down five hundred ninety yen or about sixteen percent.3:12Investors faced uncertainty about how goodwill payments and trading loss3:16compensation would affect earnings.3:18That concern accompanied the selling without explaining every trade.3:21The reimbursement commitment concerns actual qualifying losses, with refunds already3:26paid by the trading venue deducted.3:28GMO still needs to clarify how it will assess claims and calculate each customer's3:32payment.3:32GMO hasn't provided a verified total for compromised accounts, qualifying losses, or3:37the overall compensation bill.3:39Goodwill recipients include people who lost no money.3:41Counting everyone eligible for5,000 yen would therefore give a different population3:45from the customers seeking trading, loss reimbursement.3:48Users were promised an email by October30 th explaining how to receive the Goodwill3:52payment and when it would be paid.3:54That deadline concerns instructions.3:56GMO hasn't confirmed when either the Goodwill money or loss reimbursement will reach4:00customers' accounts.Explore with HeyDexFollow
