Four reported injured in shooting near Birmingham’s Legion Field

Hâlâ yanıtsız dediklerimiz

  1. The victims’ conditions, who fired and whether any danger continued remain unverified.

    Hâlâ yanıtsız

At least one death is now confirmed, but the surviving victims’ conditions remain unclear. Who fired and whether authorities determined that any continuing danger remained are still unverified.426

  2. A medical update and a police account addressing the injury count, shooting location and public-safety situation would resolve the most immediate gaps.

Later reporting places the shooting near the 400 block of Graymont Avenue West at approximately 7:50 p.m. on October 31. A reconciled casualty count, confirmed medical outcomes for survivors and an update on restrictions or continuing danger are still missing.342

A confirmed death changes the account of the shooting outside Birmingham’s stadium. The earlier four-person injury count still cannot be added to the fatality to establish a total.

How many people were shot outside Legion Field, and what happened to them? The confirmation of at least one death makes that question more urgent after Saturday night’s gunfire in Birmingham, Alabama. Multiple other people were wounded, but authorities’ reported figures still do not provide a reconciled victim total. Police suspended Magic City Classic tailgating and ordered everyone off stadium property.42

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed one death to AL.com, a finding also relayed by the New York Post. The Birmingham Times separately reported at least one death and said the conditions of the other injured people were unknown. This is now a fatal shooting investigation, not simply an incident with injuries of unconfirmed severity.412

In our report aired on the evening of October 31, Alabama time, we reported four people injured, citing WVTM 13’s account of information from Birmingham Fire and Rescue. No victim’s condition was then confirmed. The death changes that account, but it does not establish that five people were shot: the person who died may have been included in the earlier four-person count. AL.com’s account explicitly preserves that uncertainty.54

What the casualty figures actually establish

The four-person figure remains an earlier reported injury count, not a verified count of four surviving patients. HBCU Gameday also carried it, attributing it to Birmingham Fire and Rescue through WVTM 13 rather than independently establishing a new total. Until authorities connect the victim count with the medical outcomes, adding the death to that figure risks counting one person twice.34

There is preliminary information about injury severity, but it cannot resolve the accounting. The New York Post reported that public-safety radio communications described at least two people as critically injured and another as having minor injuries. Those descriptions lack independent medical confirmation and do not identify the patients or establish their later conditions. They cannot be treated as a separate group to add to the other figures.1

The location is clearer than it was in our first report. The shooting was reported near the 400 block of Graymont Avenue West, outside Legion Field, on Saturday, October 31, 2026. The reported time is approximately 7:50 p.m.; accounts describing it as around or shortly after 7:50 p.m. and shortly before 8 p.m. do not establish an exact minute.312

Emergency treatment extended along Graymont Avenue. CNAW2, citing AL.com reporter Carol Robinson, reported victims being treated in the 300 and 400 blocks; fire radio traffic indicated that multiple people needed emergency transportation. Our earlier account described treatment near Third Street West. These are places where crews helped people, not proof of separate shooting sites or the precise spot where each victim was struck.105

A celebration ended by police order

The gunfire followed the 85th annual Magic City Classic, the football rivalry between Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University. The game had ended, but tailgating festivities were still underway nearby. That explains why a gathering continued around the stadium; it does not establish that the victims attended the game, were tailgating or were targeted because of the event. Authorities have not established a connection between the shooting and the competition.124

Police responded by ending tailgating and directing people to leave. The Birmingham Times reproduced the department’s announcement:

All Magic City Classic tailgating has been suspended. Everyone needs to leave the stadium property at this time. The Birmingham Police Department will provide updated information as soon as possible.

Police also urged other people not to come to Legion Field. The available reporting does not establish whether or when those restrictions were lifted. The departure order was a concrete protective action, but it was neither proof that a shooter remained nearby nor an assurance that danger had passed.6

Mayor Randall Woodfin described a community grieving after a night of celebration. “There is no argument, no beef, no misunderstanding that can justify this level of senseless violence during a night of celebration,” he said in a statement reproduced by the Birmingham Times. His condemnation did not establish that an argument or any particular dispute caused the shooting.2

Woodfin also placed the loss within the event’s significance to historically Black colleges and universities: “The Magic City Classic is rooted in HBCU tradition, and at the heart of those traditions is family. Tonight, as a family, we grieve.” He described the investigation as active and pledged to pursue justice.2

The investigation still owes an account

Police have asked witnesses to submit video through an online evidence portal. No verified suspect identity, number of shooters, arrest information or explanation of what precipitated the gunfire is available in the reporting reviewed here. That absence is not proof that investigators have made no progress; it means there is not yet a public account that answers those questions.34

The next consequential update must do more than repeat a toll. It needs to reconcile how many people were shot with what happened to each of them, explain what police know about the gunfire and clarify the stadium area’s public-safety status. One death is established. The surviving victims’ conditions and the circumstances of the violence remain unresolved.

  1. Gunfire outside Legion Field killed one person and left multiple others wounded.
  2. Police stopped Magic City Classic tailgating and ordered everyone off stadium property.

  4. How many people were shot, and what led to the gunfire?
  5. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has confirmed at least one death. Multiple other people suffered gunshot wounds. The death gives a medical outcome for one victim, while the surviving victims’ conditions remain unclear.
  6. Birmingham Fire and Rescue had put the earlier injury count at four. Adding the death to that figure would risk counting the same person twice. Authorities still need to reconcile the number of people hurt with their outcomes.
  7. The shooting happened near the 400 block of Graymont Avenue West, outside Legion Field in Birmingham, Alabama. Gunfire broke out around 7:50 p.m. on Saturday, October 31, after the football game had ended.

  9. Preliminary emergency radio descriptions indicated at least two people were critically injured and one had minor injuries. Those descriptions haven't been medically confirmed, and it's unclear how those patients overlap with the earlier count or the person who died.
  10. The 85th annual Magic City Classic brought together Alabama A&M University and Alabama State University. The rivalry is a tradition of historically Black colleges and universities. The game was over, but tailgating festivities were continuing nearby when shots were fired.
  11. That explains why people were still gathered around the stadium. Police haven't said the shooting was connected to the game. The cause of the violence remains unexplained.
  12. Police ended tailgating and told everyone to leave stadium property. They also urged other people to stay away from Legion Field. The instructions cut short the gathering as emergency crews responded to the wounded.
  13. Police haven't said whether those restrictions have since been lifted or whether any danger remains in the area.
  14. Mayor Randall Woodfin described a community grieving after a night of celebration. He said, “There is no argument, no beef, no misunderstanding that can justify this level of senseless violence during a night of celebration.”
  15. Woodfin also spoke about the event's place in the community. “The Magic City Classic is rooted in HBCU tradition, and at the heart of those traditions is family,” he said. “Tonight, as a family, we grieve.”
  16. He promised justice for those harmed and said the investigation was active. His statement didn't identify what triggered the shooting.
  17. Police are seeking witness video through an online evidence-submission portal. They haven't publicly identified a suspect or explained what led to the gunfire. An official update is still needed to reconcile the casualty count and the surviving victims’ conditions.
