All nine aboard died, and hundreds of nearby residents faced displacement. Investigators have recovered an engine section, but tail fragments found miles away leave the crucial causal sequence unresolved.
Stephanie Platts and her family escaped the flames and burning debris that reached their property when a Learjet crashed near Greenacres, Florida. Their home, she said, did not survive. In a November 5 account, Platts was staying temporarily at the Greenacres Community Center with help from Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach. She described burning her foot as her family fled. Surviving the crash scene had left them with another emergency: finding somewhere to live.8
Investigators have now reached part of the wreckage buried beneath that devastated stretch of Military Trail. The National Transportation Safety Board’s November 5 update says crews recovered a portion of one engine during excavation. Elsewhere, pieces of a tail control surface found miles from the impact crater establish that the aircraft was coming apart before it hit the ground. Neither discovery yet explains what started the emergency.22410
In our November 1 broadcast, we reported that a Learjet 60 with nine people aboard had crashed near Cresthaven, but could not establish their condition. All nine are now confirmed dead: two crew members and seven passengers, including two young children. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy confirmed the fatal outcome.412413
The jet crashed shortly before 1 p.m. on Sunday, November 1, 2026, along Military Trail near Greenacres and Cresthaven in Palm Beach County. It was flying from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to North Eleuthera Airport in the Bahamas. The NTSB identifies the operator as Aurora Aviation, doing business as Upper Jet, and says the flight lost radar and radio contact while en route. The agency is leading the investigation, with FAA assistance.26224
The pieces do not establish the sequence
The engine recovery marks access to wreckage that had been difficult to reach, not the discovery of an engine failure. Rain and water inside the impact crater complicated the work; crews had to drain water and clear hazards before excavation. The digging began late November 4—three calendar days after the crash—and continued the next day. That interval was not three days of inactivity. Recovered wreckage will go to a secure location for examination.5224
The clearest evidence of separation before impact came from outside the crater. Investigators recovered most of the left elevator in three pieces between 1.3 and 3.8 miles away. An elevator is a movable tail surface that helps control the aircraft’s nose-up and nose-down movement. NTSB member Tom Chapman said the distance establishes that the pieces separated before the jet struck the ground. It does not establish that the entire tail detached.10
Two very different sequences remain possible. Losing the elevator might have caused the aircraft to lose control. Or forces acting on an aircraft already descending uncontrollably might have torn the surface away. Investigators have not determined which happened, or exactly when the elevator detached within the emergency. The distinction is fundamental: damage can be the cause of an accident, or evidence of what the aircraft endured after something else went wrong.1015
Former NTSB investigator Greg Feith suggested structural overstress and pilot inputs during an attempted recovery could explain the separation. That is an outside theory, not the investigating agency’s finding. The crew’s report of an overspeed condition makes those forces relevant to examine; it does not establish pilot error.17
The radio sequence leaves investigators an emergency measured in seconds. At about 12:47 p.m., while at approximately 35,000 feet, the crew reported light clear ice and moderate turbulence, with altitude deviations of roughly 700 feet. They subsequently reported precipitation and requested a climb to 37,000 feet. Less than 30 seconds after clearance was granted, a transmission said the aircraft was descending, followed by a Mayday. Another transmission reported overspeed and descent; the remaining words were unintelligible.23
An earlier controller warning about nearby moderate precipitation came while the jet was at about 41,000 feet—a different stage of the flight, not a competing measurement of the later altitude. Weather is a major investigative focus, but the crew’s reports of ice, turbulence and precipitation are not themselves a finding of cause. Investigators had not established whether the jet flew through an active thunderstorm.5153
Descriptions of the descent also need to stay in their proper categories. CBC reported radio calls describing rates of 10,000 and 20,000 feet a minute; India Today described 22,000. Other accounts gave rates above 30,000, while a tracking estimate described 27,000 feet lost in one minute. These may concern different moments or measurement methods. They establish a very rapid fall, not one settled reconstruction that can be assembled by combining the figures.2411563
As of November 6 reporting, investigators had not located the cockpit voice recorder and could not confirm it was aboard. The public audio is radio traffic with air traffic control, not a recovered recording of cockpit conversations, warnings or control inputs. That leaves a substantial gap in understanding what the pilots were experiencing.5
Families and a neighborhood left waiting
The captain was Jeffrey Gregory, commonly called Jeff, 55. His co-pilot was Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, 20. Her mother, Camila Corteleti, identified her daughter and described her flying experience; reporting attributed to her mother put that experience at more than 1,300 hours, after earning a pilot’s license at 17.14524118
Aviation International News reported that Gregory held an unrestricted Learjet 60 type rating. Filgueiras held a restricted rating requiring her to fly with a fully qualified pilot in command, such as Gregory. Both were certified flight instructors. Her age and that restriction do not, by themselves, establish an improper crew assignment or explain the accident.15
At a November 6 news conference, her father, Allan Filgueiras, said the air traffic control recording showed his daughter fighting to control the aircraft until the last minute. That is a father’s interpretation of the communications, not a completed flight reconstruction. The passengers included entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his wife, their two young children, the children’s caregiver and two family friends.3143
The ground-injury account has also changed since the first reports. NTSB investigator Timothy Monville identified a man in a nearby vehicle who suffered a leg injury, superseding early statements that there were no reports of ground injuries. Officials reported no deaths on the ground. Platts’s separately reported foot burn should not be added to that agency announcement to manufacture a newly verified injury total.231488
Hundreds of residents have faced displacement around the scene. Early reporting described about 600 evacuated; later reporting estimated 400–600 displaced, while county officials gave an estimate of about 400. Those approximate counts do not demonstrate that exactly 200 people returned. Officials were pursuing shelter, food, transportation, longer-term housing assistance and emergency funds, with no confirmed timetable for residents’ return in the displacement updates.257255153
Military Trail initially closed in both directions between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North; later descriptions extended the affected stretch toward Purdy Lane and Alameda Drive. Damaged water lines and other infrastructure could keep the road closed for weeks, with some estimates reaching at least 30 days. No verified reopening date has been established. John I. Leonard High School closed November 2, and dozens of businesses were reported closed inside the restricted area.8645114
Some uncertainties from our first report remain. The road corridor does not establish a precise impact address, and our earlier Marilyn Drive reference remains unconfirmed. Cresthaven, Greenacres and other nearby place names describe the same emergency; the established crash date is Sunday, November 1, not Saturday. Infrastructure damage is documented, but a service-by-service accounting of water or sewer outages is still missing.22445
Evidence recovery extends beyond the road. Ana Escobar said a metal piece pierced her roof and landed in her kitchen; deputies collected it November 3, but investigators had not confirmed its origin. The NTSB has separately confirmed aircraft debris on nearby roofs and asks people not to keep, move, alter or discard suspected wreckage. Finds can be reported to [email protected], with a photograph if possible, so the agency can arrange collection.1410224
The NTSB labels its recovery information preliminary and subject to change. A preliminary report was expected in about a month; determining probable cause could take more than a year. The immediate task is not merely recovering more pieces. It is establishing their order in the emergency—especially whether the elevator’s separation began the loss of control or followed it.22419

- All Nine Aboard Killed as Learjet 60 Crashes Near Greenacres, Florida; NTSB Sends Go-Team https://aerocorner.com/news/n722bd-learjet-60-greenacres-florida-crash/
- 🚨 What we know — and don't — about the Learjet 60 crash in Florida. On Nov 1, 2026, Learjet 60 N722BD crashed in Greenacres, Florida, killing all nine aboard. No injuries on the ground. The crew reported light icing and moderate turbulence and requested a climb before the jet descended at over 360 km/h. The crash footage circulating online is authentic. The widely shared audio is live ATC radio traffic, publicly archived by https://t.co/XCWBk1TAKL. It is not data from the cockpit voice recorder — no CVR transcript has been released. Claims that cockpit recordings were "released too quickly" are based on this misunderstanding. Pilot names circulating on social media are unconfirmed; authorities have not identified the crew. Theories that the jet was shot down rest solely on its proximity to Mar-a-Lago and a governor's quote about the trajectory of the fall, taken out of context — no agency supports this. Early technical scenarios attributing the crash to icing or turbulenc...

- Investigators recovered an engine section from the buried jet that killed all nine aboard.
- Tail fragments found miles away show the aircraft was breaking apart before it struck the ground.
- On November 1, we reported nine people aboard, with their condition still unknown. Investigators now have to determine whether a tail-control failure started the emergency or followed it.
- The Learjet 60 was flying from Austin-Bergstrom International Airport to North Eleuthera in the Bahamas. It crashed near Greenacres and Cresthaven in Palm Beach County, along Military Trail, shortly before one in the afternoon.
- The crash happened on Sunday, November 1. Early descriptions used several nearby community names, but they describe the same emergency. The aircraft carried two crew members and seven passengers. Everyone aboard died, including two young children.
- Aurora Aviation operated the flight under the business name Upper Jet. The aircraft lost radio and radar contact while en route. The National Transportation Safety Board is leading the investigation, with the Federal Aviation Administration also involved.
- The recovery team had to reach wreckage deeply embedded in an impact crater. Rain and water inside the crater complicated that work. Crews drained water and cleared hazards before excavation could begin.
- Excavation began late November 4, three calendar days after the crash. Investigators continued the next day and recovered a portion of one engine. The wreckage will go to a secure location for examination.
- The engine section gives investigators another component to examine. The strongest evidence of an earlier separation came from outside the crater: most of the left elevator, a movable tail surface that helps control the aircraft’s nose-up and nose-down movement.
- Investigators recovered most of the left elevator in three pieces, between 1.3 and 3.8 miles from the impact site. That distance shows the pieces separated before the jet hit the ground.
- Investigators are examining two possible sequences. The elevator could have separated and triggered the loss of control. Or forces on an aircraft already descending uncontrollably could have torn it away. They haven't determined which happened.
- Former NTSB investigator Greg Feith suggested structural overstress and pilot inputs during an attempted recovery could explain the separation. That's an outside theory. The investigating agency hasn't reached a conclusion about what started the descent.
- The crew’s radio calls describe an emergency that developed within seconds. Earlier in the flight, a controller warned of nearby moderate precipitation while the jet was at about 41,000 feet. Later, at about 35,000 feet, the crew reported light clear ice and moderate turbulence.
- The crew described altitude deviations of roughly 700 feet, then reported precipitation and requested a climb to 37,000 feet. The earlier 41,000-foot reference concerns a different stage of the flight.
- Less than 30 seconds after the climb was approved, a transmission said the aircraft was descending. A Mayday followed. Another transmission reported an overspeed condition, meaning the jet was flying too fast, and a descent. The remaining words were unintelligible.
- Weather is a major focus of the investigation. The crew’s reports describe conditions they encountered, but investigators haven't determined how those conditions affected the aircraft or began the emergency.
- The crew described descent rates of 10,000, 20,000 and 22,000 feet a minute during the radio exchanges. Other descriptions put the descent above 30,000, or around 32,000. A tracking estimate described 27,000 feet lost in one minute.
- Those figures can describe different moments and different ways of measuring the fall. They can't be combined into one settled reconstruction. What they consistently describe is a very rapid descent, with the crew reporting overspeed.
- By November 6, investigators hadn't found the cockpit voice recorder and couldn't confirm it was aboard. The public audio captures transmissions to air traffic control. It leaves investigators without a recovered recording of cockpit conversations and warnings.
- The captain was Jeffrey Gregory, known as Jeff, who was 55. His co-pilot was Nathalia Gadelha Filgueiras, who was 20. Her mother, Camila Corteleti, said she earned her pilot’s license at 17 and had more than 1,300 flight hours.
- Gregory held an unrestricted Learjet 60 qualification. Filgueiras held a restricted qualification requiring her to fly with a fully qualified pilot in command, such as Gregory. Both were certified flight instructors.
- At a November 6 news conference, her father, Allan Filgueiras, said the radio recording showed his daughter trying to control the aircraft until the last minute. The family’s attorney, Stuart Grossman, said 20 NTSB investigators had been sent to South Florida.
- The passengers included entrepreneur Adam Robinson, his wife, their two young children, the children’s caregiver and two family friends. Accounts identify his wife as Helen Sharp and name caregiver Anita Maria Cetina and friends Rachael Reed and Charmi Fehr. Some names vary across those accounts.
- The NTSB also identified one injured person on the ground: a man in a nearby vehicle who suffered a leg injury. That updates early statements that there were no reports of ground injuries. Officials reported no deaths on the ground.
- Stephanie Platts separately said she burned her foot while her family escaped flames and burning debris that reached their property. She said the crash happened yards from her home, and that her family lost the home.
- In the November 5 account, Platts was staying temporarily at the Greenacres Community Center. Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Palm Beach was helping her, and a fundraiser had been established to support the family.
- Later estimates put displacement at 400 to 600 people. Early accounts described about 600 evacuated from the nearby mobile-home community. Those approximate figures don't show that exactly 200 people returned. The affected community included almost 80 mobile homes.
- Residents had no confirmed timetable for returning home in the displacement updates. Officials were pursuing temporary shelter, food and transportation, along with longer-term housing assistance and emergency funds. Businesses were also seeking help.
- Military Trail initially closed in both directions between Cresthaven Boulevard and 10th Avenue North. Later descriptions extended the affected stretch toward Purdy Lane and Alameda Drive. John I. Leonard High School closed on November 2, and dozens of businesses closed inside the restricted area.
- The crash left a roadway crater, downed power lines and damage to nearby property and infrastructure. Damaged water lines and repairs could keep the road closed for weeks, with some estimates reaching at least 30 days. No reopening date has been announced.
- Aircraft debris also reached roofs of nearby homes and buildings. Ana Escobar said a metal piece pierced her roof and landed in her kitchen, less than a mile from the crash scene. Sheriff’s deputies collected it on November 3.
- Investigators hadn't confirmed that particular piece came from the jet. Peter DiMaira also described finding suspected tail material at a workplace about 3.8 miles away. Each fragment needs examination before investigators can place it in the aircraft’s final sequence.
- The NTSB asks people to leave suspected wreckage undisturbed and arrange collection by email, with a photograph if possible. The agency says people shouldn't keep, move, alter or dispose of it. Small fragments may help establish what happened.
- The recovered elevator establishes that a control surface separated before impact. Investigators still have to determine whether its loss began the emergency or resulted from forces during the descent. The engine section and other recovered pieces will undergo further examination.
- The NTSB labels the recovery information preliminary and subject to change. A preliminary report was expected in about a month. Determining the probable cause could take more than a year.
