  13. Cecil County Executive Adam Streight identified the girl as a North East Middle School student. He offered condolences to her family, recognized the toll on first responders, and promised to contact state transportation officials about pedestrian and vehicle safety.
  14. Swain said the family needs the community's support. Streight said the county joins them in mourning, and thanked state police for finding the alleged driver quickly.
  15. The Maryland Department of Transportation says traffic engineers will assess the location after state police finish investigating. They'll examine speeds, lighting, how far drivers and pedestrians can see, and lane markings, including crosswalks.
  16. The department hasn't announced a construction project or a completion date. Its next commitment is the engineering assessment, with any changes to the intersection still to be decided.
