Eight Months After Congress Ordered Epstein Files Out, Justice Still Holds Them

當時尚無定論

  • No verified speaker, transcript, or committee record for the Sessions-specific claims about redaction and testimony.
  • No public accounting yet of what DOJ is still withholding and why.

  • Whether the Justice Department answers the New Mexico suit with release or resistance.
  • Whether Transparency Act II advances or stalls on presidential support.
  • Whether House Republicans close the probe with referrals before the midterms.

A year after Congress promised full Epstein disclosure, frustration and DOJ noncompliance claims frame an unverified charge about White House cooperation.

現已確認

  • Congressional Epstein probe launched last summer promised full release; a year later frustrations are mounting.
  • DOJ was reported to have withheld portions of files containing allegations involving Trump.
  • Republican Massie joined Democrat Khanna on a stronger transparency bill.
  • New Mexico sued DOJ and Blanche on Aug. 8, saying they blocked its probe.

One year is the number that matters most. When lawmakers launched the Jeffrey Epstein investigation last summer, it came with what CNN described as "an ambitious promise: to pull back the curtain on decades of failed federal probes, secure the full release of long-withheld files" 2. A year later, the same account says "frustrations are mounting" 2. That is the scale to keep in mind: not a week of sparring over documents, but twelve months after a pledge to finally open decades of federal failure, with survivors still waiting and files still fought over page by page.

Into that stalemate came the claim at the center of the aired August 8, 2026 segment: that Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi, Democrat of Illinois, said on C-SPAN that "President Trump is not as fully cooperative as we would like" in the Epstein probe, adding that "many, many Republican colleagues have echoed the same." The research file is explicit that none of the web sources provided contains that C-SPAN interview or that exact language, so the remark itself cannot be independently verified from these materials. There is also no independent measure in the file of White House cooperation and no separate confirmation of where Republican members stand on that specific criticism.

What can be verified is why a charge of noncooperation lands. A February 2026 NPR investigation, reported by PBS, found the Justice Department had "withheld portions of the Jeffrey Epstein files that contain allegations involving President Trump" 5. House Oversight Democrats called that withholding "a potential crime" 5. On February 25, 2026, congressional Republicans said they would also investigate missing Epstein files related to Trump 9. In other words, the premise behind the aired criticism — that the executive branch has not delivered everything Congress sought — matches documented, repeated accusations aimed at the Justice Department, even if those accusations were framed around the department rather than the White House directly.

Bipartisan pressure, divergent endings

Krishnamoorthi's suggestion of Republican agreement has context, but not confirmation. Republican Rep. Thomas Massie joined Democrat Ro Khanna in pushing a more robust Epstein Files Transparency Act, leaving open the question Guardian editors put plainly as "would Trump sign it?" 4. Republican Oversight Chair James Comer was separately finalizing plans to wrap up his probe, possibly with criminal referrals, telling NOTUS he "expects new activity at the Justice Department as a result of his probe" 6. That bipartisan activity is real, but Massie and Khanna's transparency push is related rather than an echo of Krishnamoorthi's specific White House claim, and Comer's move to close down could cut against the framing of an active, blocked investigation.

The aired segment grounded its criticism in survivors and in the abuse of thousands of young women who were girls at the time. The file does not provide an independent transcript of that survivor language, so it is best read as paraphrase rather than verified quotation. The surrounding record does show survivors forcing their way into public view: hundreds of protesters, including survivors, gathered at Epstein's Zorro Ranch on International Women's Day, March 8, 2026 10. By early August 2026, investigations into alleged crimes at Zorro Ranch were ramping up, adding pressure on the Justice Department 8.

August 8 itself, the day the video aired, was crowded with parallel Epstein news that underscored the cooperation fight. New Mexico sued the Justice Department and Todd Blanche, saying they blocked the state's Epstein probe 10. Rep. Madeleine Dean, Democrat of Pennsylvania, revealed a heavily redacted October 2009 email from Epstein to Gmax — understood as Ghislaine Maxwell — which she said exposes clear lies by Trump, rendered in the memo as "clear 'lies'" 3. Neither development proves the White House claim, but both show Congress and states hunting for answers outside Washington's controlled releases.

Five days later, the paper fight moved to court. On August 13, 2026, Attorney General Todd Blanche had to explain in court the department's refusal to release and unredact Epstein files, after the judge said Blanche had not properly justified the redactions 11. Newsweek likewise reported fresh accusations of Justice Department noncompliance after that hearing in a suit brought by a journalist 7. For a public told last summer that full disclosure was coming, the image is telling: the nation's top law-enforcement officer arguing to a judge why black bars should stay.

After a year of promises, the question is no longer what Congress asked for, but who gets to keep the redactions.
