500,000 Trapped in El-Obeid as U.N. Sees Echoes of El-Fasher

500,000 people. That is the number that matters in El-Obeid — roughly half a million civilians now described as trapped, encircled and cut off from the food, water, fuel and medical care that keep a city alive. ^{2 5 11} It is not a forecast of what could happen if a siege begins.
