I-80 partly reopened near Parleys Canyon—but no all-clear was confirmed

آنچه گزارش کردیم

  • The I-215-to-Parleys-Canyon stretch had reopened, but a closure was still reported at milepost 128.

A jackknifed semi near Farad forced eastbound traffic to turn around at Hirschdale. The highway reopened around 4:45 p.m. Saturday; injuries and the crash cause remain unconfirmed.

آنچه پیش رفت

  • Caltrans records eastbound I-80 closed 7.4 miles east of Truckee.
  • The highway reopens, according to local reports citing Caltrans.

What began as an open-ended shutdown of eastbound Interstate 80 ended with the route reopening late Saturday afternoon. A jackknifed semi near Farad had blocked the highway and forced approaching drivers to turn around at Hirschdale. By around 4:45 p.m. Pacific daylight time on October 31, 2026, the road was available again—roughly two and a half hours after the closure began.137

The reopening settles the immediate road-status question, but not the full account of the crash. Whether anyone was injured remains unclear, and no cause has been established in the available reporting. Those gaps matter: restoring traffic does not, by itself, tell us what happened to the person or people in the truck.1

Caltrans recorded the eastbound closure at 2:12 p.m., locating it 7.4 miles east of Truckee. That precise entry is consistent with CBS Bay Area and CBS Sacramento reporting that the shutdown began shortly before 2:15 p.m. Both CBS accounts subsequently reported the approximately 4:45 p.m. reopening, attributing that information to Caltrans.712

Farad and Hirschdale describe different parts of the same disruption, not competing locations for the truck. CHP Truckee placed the blockage in the Farad area. News 4 reported that approaching eastbound traffic was being turned around at Hirschdale. Drivers reaching that turnaround had to head back while the obstruction remained farther along the route.13

News 4 also attributed the crash to a single big rig, citing CHP Truckee; KOLO described a solo-vehicle crash. The supported account is therefore a truck jackknifing across the eastbound roadway, not an established multiple-vehicle collision. The reports do not explain what caused the truck to jackknife.35

Reopening replaces the earlier warning

During the closure, CHP Truckee initially had no estimated reopening time. That warning described a genuine uncertainty for drivers then, but it is no longer the outcome of this incident. KCRA's October 31 update, published at 4:51 p.m. PDT, reported that the highway had reopened, citing Caltrans. CBS Sacramento's updated account was timestamped 4:57 p.m., also after the reported reopening.1122

KOLO's November 1 account continued to describe the highway as closed with no reopening estimate. That status differs from the affirmative reopening reports published by CBS and KCRA on October 31. There is no indication in these accounts that the highway closed again after 4:45 p.m.; the closure-only description does not establish a second shutdown.5212

The crash time is less firmly established than the closure window. KCRA, citing CHP online logs, placed the crash before 2 p.m. near Farad Road. KOLO called it a Saturday-morning crash. Those descriptions cannot be reconciled from the available information, and Caltrans' 2:12 p.m. closure entry should not be treated as the moment of impact.1257

What the road update leaves unresolved

The distinction is straightforward: the shutdown has a recorded start, the reopening has corroborating reports, and the collision itself still lacks a verified exact time. Keeping those separate avoids turning a road-management timestamp into a claim about when the truck crashed.

There is likewise no verified basis in these accounts to blame weather, speed, equipment failure or driver conduct. CBS continued to describe injuries as unclear. An absent injury count is not confirmation that the driver escaped unharmed, just as a reopened highway is not a finding about the cause.112

Nor should details from an earlier nearby truck crash fill those gaps. Reports of an overturned truck near Floriston on August 28, including a cab hanging from a bridge, concern a separate incident—not this October 31 blockage near Farad. Its circumstances cannot establish the injuries or mechanics of Saturday's crash.810

Eastbound I-80 reopens after jackknifed semi blocks route near Farad
مطابق پخش
  1. A jackknifed semi blocked Interstate 80 and forced eastbound drivers to turn around.
  2. The eastbound highway reopened around four forty-five Saturday afternoon, after roughly two and a half hours of closure. Drivers could use the route again, but whether anyone was injured in the crash is still unclear.
  3. The truck blocked the highway near Farad, while approaching eastbound traffic was turned around at Hirschdale. Those were separate points in the same shutdown. Caltrans placed the closure seven point four miles east of Truckee.
  4. Eastbound drivers reaching the turnaround had to head back while the blockage remained. CHP Truckee initially had no estimate for reopening. That was the situation during the closure; the highway subsequently reopened that afternoon.
  5. Caltrans recorded the closure starting at two twelve. The highway reopened around four forty-five. That puts the shutdown at roughly two and a half hours on October thirty-first, with the eastbound route available again by late afternoon.
  6. The reopening replaced the earlier closure warning. A separate account continued to describe the highway as closed, but there was no indication that it had closed again after reopening.
  7. The highway's afternoon shutdown has a recorded start time. The truck's exact crash time is less clear. Conflicting timing places it before two or in the morning, so the closure time shouldn't be treated as the moment of impact.
  8. CHP Truckee described a single big rig in the crash. The truck jackknifed across the eastbound roadway near Farad. Nobody has explained what caused it to jackknife.
