Police confirmed the 28-year-old remained alive Saturday after the waterfront stabbing. That does not resolve an unconfirmed brain-death report, and no suspect had been identified.
What does confirmation that Brooklyn’s wounded jogger remained alive actually tell us? It establishes a crucial fact about the 28-year-old woman attacked on the Bath Beach waterfront—but it is not a medical assessment, an announcement of recovery or an answer to an earlier, unconfirmed report that she had been declared brain dead.
An NYPD spokesperson confirmed Saturday, October 31, that the woman remained alive, Fox News Digital reported. Investigators had not identified a suspect, and police were asking the public for information about the stabbing. The woman’s identity had not been publicly released by police.1
In our October 31 broadcast, we reported that she had been stabbed in the neck while jogging Friday evening and taken to hospital in critical condition. We kept that initial condition separate from the later brain-death account, which relied on unnamed police sources. The new confirmation updates her living status as of Saturday; it leaves the broader question of her medically confirmed condition unresolved.
What the medical update establishes
The confirmation appeared in Fox News Digital’s report published at 9:45 p.m. EDT on October 31. Its reference to Saturday means October 31 in New York—not a Sunday update. The article attributes the information to an NYPD spokesperson but does not provide a verbatim quotation from that official.1
The New York Post’s October 31 report said, citing unnamed police sources, that the woman had been declared brain dead. That article was published at 2:53 p.m. EDT; the available version displays a later, 9:10 p.m. update, so its present wording cannot establish every detail of the original afternoon account. No public hospital confirmation of the reported declaration has been verified.9
Those limits matter. Fox’s report does not supply a clinical assessment that resolves the Post’s account, and it should not be read as proof of improved brain function or a changed prognosis. Equally, the anonymously sourced account is not a verified hospital announcement. Neither a confirmed death nor a confirmed recovery can be reported from this update.19
The established initial condition is narrower: emergency medical personnel transported her to NYU Langone Hospital–Brooklyn in critical condition after the attack. That describes her condition at transport, not a newly issued assessment from her doctors.1
The attack and the search
The stabbing happened Friday, October 30, on the Shore Parkway Greenway. According to the police account carried by Fox News Digital, the woman was jogging eastbound when she suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck. That report places the attack around 8 p.m.; our earlier broadcast gave the more specific time of just after 8:15 p.m. The newer account is less precise, rather than evidence of a different incident.1
The location remains less settled than a single street reference might suggest. News 12 and ABC7 placed the attack near Bay Parkway and Cropsey Avenue, the area we cited previously. Fox News Digital’s police-attributed account instead places it near Shore Parkway and Bay 17th Street. Both describe the Bath Beach waterfront setting, but the reporting does not establish the exact attack point or explain whether the streets are different reference points for the same stretch. They should not be combined into one supposedly verified intersection.2361
Saturday’s investigative update was that police had not identified a suspect. Our earlier information that no arrest had been made was dated to Friday night; it should not be presented as a fresh arrest check. No subsequent arrest has been verified, and the available update supplies no suspect description.123
What led to the stabbing also remains unknown. Police have not established whether the woman knew her attacker, whether she was targeted or whether the assault was random. An appeal for information is a step in the investigation—not a finding about motive or a determination that other path users face a particular threat.1
A reported connection to the New York City Marathon needs similar care. The Post described her as training for Sunday’s race, citing police sources. New York Road Runners, which organizes the marathon, told Fox News Digital that its records showed she had participated in its races before, but it could not confirm whether she planned to run the November 1 marathon. Prior races and reported training do not establish a place in Sunday’s field.91
We were sad to hear of this horrible attack—our hearts are with her family and the running community.
For anyone with information about the stabbing, police are seeking confidential tips through the NYPD Crime Stoppers hotline, 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), and the department’s Crime Stoppers website. The next consequential developments would be an authoritative medical assessment or verified progress toward identifying the attacker. Neither is supplied by Saturday’s confirmation alone.1
