Dragon Freedom
Adenot

- On October 2, we reported Crew-12 preparing to leave. Now Freedom has returned all four astronauts.
- The landing ends a science expedition of more than seven and a half months aboard the International Space Station, but does not establish completed extraction or medical checks. What is confirmed about the landing, the mission’s work, and the crew’s recovery?
- Dragon Freedom splashed down off Los Angeles on October 8, 2026, at 8:34 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time—11:34 a.m. Eastern, or 15:34 UTC. All four Crew-12 members returned aboard the SpaceX capsule.
- Jessica Meir commanded the mission, with Jack Hathaway as pilot, both NASA astronauts. French astronaut Sophie Adenot served as the European Space Agency mission specialist. Roscosmos cosmonaut Andrey Fedyaev was the other mission specialist.
- The shortened names Jessica, Jack, Sophie and Andre refer to these same four people, not additional crew members. After landing, they thanked SpaceX, NASA, ESA, Roscosmos and other partners: a multinational expedition returning through NASA’s commercial crew programme.
- Four main parachutes slowed Freedom toward the water, and the crew confirmed that all four deployed. Before that, two drogue parachutes were reported healthy and deployed. The confirmed descent ended in an ocean landing, with recovery teams nearby.
- Freedom’s return took 27 hours and 29 minutes. It undocked on October 7 at 8:05 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time and landed the following day at 11:34 a.m. Eastern. Crew-12 had launched on February 13 at 5:15 a.m. Eastern Standard Time.
- A Falcon 9 carried Crew-12 from Space Launch Complex 40 at Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The completed return matches the approximately 27.5-hour journey described at landing and fulfills the earlier expectation of a Thursday Pacific splashdown.
- Crew-13 was already aboard before Crew-12 left. Dragon Grace docked on October 1 at 7:05 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, following an 11:10 a.m. launch—a flight of seven hours and 55 minutes.
- Crew-13 began a six-month rotation, allowing station work to continue through the changeover. Grace arrived at Harmony’s forward port; Freedom departed from its space-facing port. Early departure targets of 1:05 a.m. and later 8:00 a.m. Eastern were schedules, not the actual 8:05 a.m. undocking.
- The launch and landing timestamps give a total spaceflight of 237 days, five hours and 19 minutes. That calculation measures time from launch to splashdown. It does not establish that the astronauts spent precisely 237 days aboard the station.
- Time in orbit includes travel to and from the ISS. The exact arrival timestamp needed to calculate station residence was not established. Almost eight months and more than seven and a half months are compatible rounded descriptions; calling 237 days an exact station stay confuses two different clocks.
- Adenot completed three verified spacewalks: August 18, lasting six hours and 23 minutes; August 25, six hours and 30 minutes; and September 1, six hours and 49 minutes. They were designated U.S. spacewalks 97, 98 and 99.
- Adenot became the first French woman to spacewalk on August 18. She and Anil Menon removed the failed SGANT-2 antenna. On August 25, again with Menon, she helped install and activate a spare Space-to-Ground Antenna.
- That spacewalk first is separate from her distinction as the second French woman on an ISS crew, following Claudie Haigneré. Neither distinction establishes a record for the amount of spacewalking time accumulated on an astronaut’s first mission.
- Meir joined Adenot outside on September 1. Their six-hour-49-minute outing ended at 3:29 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time. Maintenance included replacing a spacecraft navigational aid and installing a new retroreflector. Its location and the complete task list remain unverified.
- Adenot’s three outings add up to 19 hours and 42 minutes, reasonably rounded to about 20 hours. Her first-French-woman milestone is established. A claim that this total set a first-mission spacewalking-time record is not supported by a verified comparative record.
- Meir’s mission tally remains four reported spacewalks totaling just over 27 hours, for maintenance and upgrades. Her September 1 outing is specifically confirmed, but the complete four-outing ledger has not been independently established. Completed maintenance alone does not demonstrate a measured scientific result.
- The crew’s research activity was described as dozens of experiments and research activities. Adenot’s activity was described as more than 200 experiments in physiology, technology and education. Her preflight programme instead anticipated participation in nearly 200 scientific and technological experiments.
- A prospective participation count is not an audited completed total. An individual astronaut’s activity count is not automatically comparable with a crew-wide experiment tally. Without a common definition and final inventory, these figures cannot responsibly be added or treated as a settled contradiction.
- Some planned experiments were to be managed directly by Cadmos in Toulouse. That does not make every experiment French or Cadmos-managed. Research activity is established, but neither an exact final experiment count nor particular scientific breakthroughs can be inferred from these totals.
- A 16-second maneuver remains unidentified. Separation from the station was confirmed, but that maneuver’s designation and purpose were not established. Freedom completed a deorbit burn on October 8; the evidence does not connect that later burn to the 16-second description.
- Nor is the identity of a departure-support person established: a name given as Joshua Cutri remains unverified, along with the person’s affiliation and precise assignment. That unresolved support role is separate from the confirmed identities of the four people returning aboard Freedom.
- Two fast boats were part of the recovery effort. Teams were securing Dragon and checking that it was safe to recover. Moving the ship into position and hoisting Freedom onto its main deck were described as forthcoming steps, not verified completed actions.
- The answer is clear on the landing: all four crew members are back on Earth. It remains incomplete on recovery. Completed hoisting, extraction, individual exit times and the recovery ship’s name were not established, nor were completed medical assessments or their results.
- A post-return mission briefing was announced, but its date and clock time were not verified. The crew’s condition after nearly eight months away from the ground remains unestablished in the confirmed recovery record.
