One number matters first. The man French prosecutors were building a trafficking and rape case around was found dead at age 69, at his home in a northwest suburb of Paris, before investigators ever sat him down and took his answer. 23 That answer now cannot be taken at all.

Daniel Siad, a French modelling scout prosecutors say recruited young women into Jeffrey Epstein's orbit, was found dead in Colombes on Monday, July 20, 2026, the Nanterre prosecutor's office confirmed. 92 An investigation into the cause of death was opened the same evening and a post-mortem examination was ordered. 259 As of late-week reporting, the cause remained officially unestablished. 106

Siad had been under formal investigation by Paris prosecutors on accusations of rape and of organising human trafficking in connection with Epstein. 3678 French media reported at least five women accused him of rape and human trafficking. 5 He had denied the allegations and told people close to him that he wanted to give his version of events. 7 He never did.

What is known, what is not

French authorities moved quickly, in the procedural sense: an investigation was opened within hours and a deputy public prosecutor named the dead man on the record. Nanterre Judicial Court Deputy Public Prosecutor Marie-Céline Lawrysz confirmed the discovery to USA Today. 9 What they have not done is close the file. The cause of death is unestablished, the autopsy is pending, and no public finding has been issued. 106

The criminal probe into Siad himself is a separate matter. That investigation was launched on the basis of complaints filed by women who came forward after the wider Epstein case became public. 7 Under French procedure, a person placed under formal investigation has the right to be heard; Siad's death, before questioning, removes the principal source of contradiction in the file.

Where Siad sat in the Epstein network

The picture drawn by the reporting is of a recruiter, not a principal. Siad is described by outlets as a modelling scout who introduced young women to Epstein across multiple countries — among them France, and others in Europe and beyond. 4 The Irish Times noted that Siad worked closely with another French scout, Jean-Luc Brunel, and observed plainly: all three men are dead. 10

That phrasing matters. The reporting available does not treat Siad as the architect of an international operation; it treats him as one node in a recruiting chain that has now collapsed at every link the public record identified. The case file, such as it was, dies with the man who could have answered it.

The deputy prosecutor named the deceased and confirmed the opening of an investigation into the cause of death.

Why prosecutors were circling him

The Paris investigation was not a cold review. French media identified at least five complainants accusing Siad of rape and human trafficking. 5 CBS, reporting on the criminal probe, described a case built on complaints filed after the wider Epstein reckoning went public. 7 Siad's response, through his denials, was on the record before his death. 3678 His interrogation was not.

Former models reacted to the news, according to WWD, and the trade paper's report on the death inquiry is among the items in the file. 11 The outlet's snippet does not include verbatim quotes from those reactions, so this article does not invent any.

The third empty chair

Epstein himself died in a Manhattan jail cell in August 2019, a death ruled a suicide by New York City's chief medical examiner. Jean-Luc Brunel, the fellow French scout, was found dead in his Paris apartment in February 2022 before he could stand trial in France. Siad, by the same arithmetic, is the third central figure in the recruiting circle to die without being made to account in court. 10
