- Fire burned through Conwy Golf Club's clubhouse roof and forced a whole-site safety closure.
- The club says nobody was hurt, but members and visitors lost access to the course and every facility. When can the site be declared safe, and which facilities can return to use?
- The fire struck the coastal golf club on Saturday evening, October thirty-first, 2026. North Wales Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from across the region. They worked through the night, and firefighters remained there on Sunday.
- Large sections of the clubhouse roof burned through. The building suffered significant damage, and the safety restrictions extended across the venue. The club included the playing facilities in its closure while emergency services dealt with the incident.
- The clubhouse's lounge, bar and restaurant had only recently been completely refurbished. Members and visitors lost access to those spaces as well as the golf course. The club acknowledged the impact on them and the local community.
- The club prohibited entry to both the grounds and the buildings. Its November first notice said emergency services had specifically asked members, visitors and the public to stay away until the site was declared safe. That restriction was repeated the following day.
- The club thanked emergency services for their rapid response and work throughout the night. It said its immediate priorities were safety and supporting those services, and thanked people who had sent messages of support.
- More than forty firefighters responded. At the height of the incident, eight fire engines and one aerial ladder were there. The ladder added another appliance to the response, with a high-volume pump also attending from Caernarfon.
- Crews came from Conwy, Colwyn Bay and Llandudno. Firefighters also attended from Rhyl, Denbigh, St Asaph, Abergele and Betws-y-Coed. That brought crews from along the coast and farther inland into the overnight response.
- The fire service was called shortly after nine that evening. Two different call times have been given, nine minutes apart. Both place the response on the same Saturday night, and each describes the call for help.
- The damaged clubhouse opened in 1996, making it thirty years old. It replaced a building from 1934. The club's history reaches much farther back, through several different clubhouses and an earlier fire.
- The club began in 1890 with a donated army mess hut. A replacement followed in the early nineteen-twenties. Fire destroyed that clubhouse in 1933. Its successor was built in 1934, before the clubhouse damaged this weekend opened in 1996.
- The championship links course hosted the Curtis Cup in 2021, after the pandemic delayed the event from 2020. The safety closure took that playing venue out of use alongside the recently refurbished clubhouse.
- Fire investigators were examining the cause by November second. The club said it didn't know what caused the fire and wouldn't speculate while official investigations took place. It promised further updates when more information became available.
- As of November fourth, we don't know whether any facilities have reopened or when the site can be declared safe. The club's November first notice told members, visitors and the public to stay away until that safety declaration.
