- A security guard followed a man behind a car and fired again.
- The man suffered gunshot wounds to his hip and leg. He's since left the hospital and been booked on aggravated assault. Investigators still have to decide whether the guard should face charges for the force he used.
- The shooting happened outside the Greyhound terminal on Rep. John Lewis Way South in Nashville. It was Sunday, October 25, 2026, shortly before seven thirty in the morning. Police put the time at seven twenty-five.
- The guard is 39-year-old Douglas West. The man he shot is 22-year-old McIntosh, from Toxey, Alabama. An aggravated-assault charge now carries consequences for McIntosh, while police and prosecutors separately examine West's decision to shoot.
- Police say West had told McIntosh to leave the station about 45 minutes before the confrontation. After the shooting, police expected to arrest McIntosh when he left the hospital. He was discharged and booked that Sunday night.
- Police allege McIntosh approached West, threw hot coffee into his face without provocation and began hitting him. West told investigators McIntosh charged him and threatened to kill him. The allegation against McIntosh and West's account of that threat are part of the investigation.
- Witnesses also described a man throwing a drink on the guard. Their description overlaps with the police allegation of hot coffee. It doesn't, by itself, settle the drink's temperature or the sequence of physical contact before the shooting.
- Witness video shows West fighting with McIntosh on the street outside the station. Someone who appears to be another security guard steps between them and pushes McIntosh away. The recording then shows West drawing his gun.
- West fires in McIntosh's direction. McIntosh runs behind a car, and West follows him and fires again. Those two firing actions appear in the witness-video sequence. The movement between them is part of what investigators must assess.
- The allegation of an earlier attack leaves investigators with another question about the gunfire. They still have to assess the threat West faced when he fired, including after McIntosh moved behind the car.
- Police say a nearby security camera captured the entire incident and backs West's account. They say it shows McIntosh making a slight movement toward West before he fired. That is investigators' description of a separate recording.
- West stayed at the scene until officers arrived and was questioned. Police described burns, scrapes and bruises to his face. His injuries and his account of the confrontation form part of the review of his use of force.
- McIntosh's bond was set at ten thousand dollars after his booking on aggravated assault. That amount doesn't tell us whether he paid it or left custody. His discharge from the hospital also doesn't tell us whether he's fully recovered.
- The legal proceedings now run on two tracks. McIntosh faces the assault allegation, and investigators are reviewing West's actions. McIntosh's arrest doesn't settle whether West's use of deadly force was legally justified.
- Metro Nashville Police and the District Attorney's Office are to conduct a full review before deciding whether West will face charges. They haven't announced a date for that decision. The aggravated-assault charge against McIntosh is the criminal charge announced so far.
