  1. On October 8, we reported airport attacks disrupting Riyadh flights. Now another projectile has struck a terminal.
  2. The airport was already closed after an attack killed at least twelve people and wounded more than three hundred. The immediate question is whether travellers and airport workers can safely return.
  3. A projectile hit Terminal Four at King Khalid International Airport on Sunday, October eleventh, causing a fire. Saudi aviation authorities reported injuries but haven't given a number. Emergency teams responded while damage and safety checks continued.
  4. The coalition also said it destroyed a cruise missile near the airport. Its spokesperson, Major General Turki al-Maliki, described the object that hit the terminal as an unknown projectile. Officials haven't explained whether the two were connected.
  5. Saturday's much deadlier attack hit the domestic-terminal complex serving Terminals Three and Four. Descriptions place the impact at Terminal Three or near gate four hundred and one. Some of the wounded were critically injured.
  6. The detailed Saudi aviation-authority tally was twelve killed and three hundred and nine injured. Competing totals give thirteen killed and three hundred and eight injured, or thirteen killed and more than three hundred injured. The differences remain unexplained.
  7. Those figures all concern Saturday. Sunday's injuries are a separate toll. The change between the competing totals doesn't tell us what happened to any individual patient.
  8. Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that an American citizen was among those killed. Saudi authorities' twelve-person breakdown included four Saudis, two Bangladeshis, and one person each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Palestine, Syria and Sudan.
  9. Thursday's airport attack was reported to have killed three people. A separate figure gives four deaths across two earlier attacks. Those cover different periods, so they can't be combined into a reliable running death toll.
  10. Saudia captain Hamoud Ali al-Kalthami was among the three Saudi citizens reported killed on Thursday. Saudia said a parked aircraft was damaged and no passengers were aboard. His death belongs to that earlier incident.
  11. An earlier aviation-authority tally counted three deaths and thirty-six injuries across Abha and Riyadh on October sixth and seventh. The Houthis publicly claimed airport attacks on October seventh and eighth. The later terminal attacks followed those incidents.
  12. Saudi Arabia and its coalition blamed the Houthis for Saturday's attack. Initially, the group hadn't issued a fresh formal claim. By Sunday, the attack was being described as Houthi-claimed. Precise responsibility for each later incident still hasn't been confirmed.
  13. Houthi spokesperson Yahya Saree warned airlines, airport workers and travellers away from Saudi airports and airspace, except Mecca and Medina. The group's leader, Abdul Malik al-Houthi, threatened continued airport attacks if Saudi Arabia stayed involved in Yemen.
  14. The Houthis also reposted a Friday message offering permission for humanitarian flights approved through a coordination centre in Sanaa. That permission was conditional. The airport's civil-aviation authorities were still dealing with a shutdown and damage assessments.
  15. Saudi authorities also reported an attack at Dammam's King Fahd International Airport. The coalition described a projectile falling nearby, with no casualties reported in that account. Authorities were assessing damage and facility safety there as well.
  16. Riyadh's reported closure deadline was nine p.m. Sunday, local time. That deadline has passed without a confirmed reopening. Another aviation-authority statement described an additional twenty-four-hour suspension and used the words “until further notice.”
  17. Flights have been cancelled, diverted and rerouted. One flight-tracking snapshot showed every Riyadh-bound flight diverted or cancelled. Other snapshots described most flights in and out as cancelled.
  18. Separate snapshots put cancellations at at least two hundred and twenty-five and at least two hundred and ninety-one over twenty-four hours. A later Sunday count exceeded six hundred and fifty. Those windows don't match, so they don't show whether service was improving.
  19. An earlier Sunday count also varied between nearly six hundred and more than six hundred. None of these gives passengers a synchronized, official latest total.
  20. Lufthansa Group announced a Riyadh suspension through October sixteenth. Air India cancellations reportedly extend through October fifteenth, and Air India Express through October fourteenth. The two Indian carriers' dates conflict and still need direct confirmation.
  21. Those extensions replace the earlier October tenth endpoint. Some UAE airline cancellations also extend into Tuesday, October thirteenth. A suspension's endpoint doesn't guarantee flights resume the following day.
  22. Riyadh schools reportedly moved online, with arrangements described as lasting until Thursday, October fifteenth. Australia advised travellers to reconsider visiting Saudi Arabia. Canada condemned the attack and issued travel advice, while British and embassy warnings reflected the security risk.
  23. The United Nations and European Union also condemned the attack or expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia. The Saudi-led coalition called it a war crime and promised a decisive response. International law prohibits deliberate attacks on civilian objects.
  24. Economist John Sfakianakis warned that insecurity could hurt Saudi tourism, its image and perceptions of Vision Twenty Thirty. Riyadh's event calendar includes a World Petroleum Congress scheduled to open Sunday and an investment forum later this month.
  25. An International Energy Forum meeting is also part of that exposure. The flight disruption creates a real access problem for business visitors, but event cancellations or measured tourism and investment losses haven't been confirmed.
  26. Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye agreed to accelerate defence commitments and rapid deployment of agreed forces on October fifth. That announcement predates Saturday's attack. The separate October eleventh condemnation also included Egypt, forming the four-country R4 group.
  27. The October fifth date corrects the description of the deployment announcement as a new October twelfth event. Pakistan has also said it has troops in Saudi Arabia, without providing a number or confirming a new accelerated deployment.
  28. The UK described ground-based air defence and refuelling support for aircraft intercepting missiles. Saudi Arabia sought more help from France, Egypt, the UK and Pakistan. Its interceptor stocks were described as running low, without a quantity or depletion timetable.
  29. Donald Trump said the United States might join Saudi strikes and that he would consult Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. Asked about joining, he said, “We may.” He hasn't announced a new strike authorization after the airport attack.
  30. The White House already confirmed intelligence support and military experts in Saudi Arabia. About two hundred US advisers were described as helping with intelligence and targeting. A forecast that intervention before November's midterms was unlikely remains an assessment, rather than an announced restriction.
  31. The United States has fought the Houthis before. Operation Rough Rider began on March fifteenth, twenty twenty-five. By April thirtieth, US officials said more than one thousand Houthi targets had been struck. The campaign ended in May after an agreement.
  32. That thousand counts targets. A separate April twenty-ninth figure counted about eight hundred strikes. The units and dates differ. The campaign reportedly cost more than one billion dollars by May eighth.
  33. Early April estimates already put total costs near one billion dollars. A narrower estimate valued three weeks of munitions at two hundred million dollars. Those cover different expenses and dates, and the final campaign cost wasn't presented as an audited total.
  34. Saudi Arabia has intensified air strikes in Yemen and has backed its internationally recognized government since twenty fifteen. The coalition says it destroyed three Houthi rocket-launch platforms in its response. The Houthis describe their airport attacks as retaliation.
  35. The Houthi-run health ministry claims Saudi-led attacks killed ninety-one people over five weeks and injured one hundred and sixty-eight. It says women and children made up sixty percent of those killed. Those casualty claims remain unconfirmed.
  36. The Houthis also claim a Saudi strike on a home in Sanaa killed a child and wounded six people. Those consequences of the retaliatory fighting haven't been confirmed either.
  37. Bab al-Mandab connects the Red Sea with the Gulf of Aden. About ten percent of global maritime goods is estimated to pass through it. Direct US combat could prompt renewed Houthi shipping attacks, adding risk to freight and energy supplies.
  38. That exposure doesn't tell us how much shipping is currently disrupted or predict a fuel-price increase. At Riyadh airport, emergency authorities continue damage and facility-safety assessments. A safe reopening after the expired Sunday deadline still hasn't been confirmed.
