  2. The Highway 12 closure runs across Pea Island from the Marc Basnight Bridge to Rodanthe. It began Thursday, September 24, after a dune breach and ocean overwash; another round hit Saturday. Transportation crews reported about 500 feet of pavement damaged near the Pea Island Visitor Center. There is no road route into or out of Hatteras Island, though travel between its villages remained possible.
