2026年10月17日，北加尔各答一处杜尔迦女神节庆典棚的单一出口发生踩踏，至少17人死亡。一名7岁女孩也在遇难者之中。原本应是一个走访节庆场所的夜晚，最终却变成伤者被送往加尔各答医学院及医院、乔尔巴甘公共庆典棚对公众关闭。30 39 96

  4. Police place the crush at about seven-forty in the evening on October seventeenth. It was Maha Saptami, a major day of Durga Puja. Large crowds were visiting festival pavilions when heavy rain fell.
  5. Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari's written statement gives seventeen deaths. His hospital remarks give nineteen, including one version saying seventeen died at the scene. He hasn't explained the difference. Seventeen remains the supported minimum, and the final toll is unresolved.

  8. Early injury estimates range from thirty-five to about forty. Adhikari says twenty-five people are receiving treatment. Police say about thirty-five were transported to Calcutta Medical College. These figures shouldn't be added together. Nobody has reconciled a final total of everyone injured.
  9. Minister Umesh Rai initially described the injured as stable. Adhikari's assessment identifies one critical patient among the twenty-five receiving treatment, with twenty-four out of danger. That leaves one family still facing an immediate medical emergency.
  10. People waiting outside moved forward to seek shelter from the rain. Some fell on the road. Rai described a sudden influx and suggested a whistle or announcement might have prompted people to rush inside.
  11. Adhikari also referred to an organisers' announcement and shortcomings in the committee's arrangements. Witnesses described narrow entrances and exits, inadequate lighting and misleading instructions. Investigators still have to establish which conditions contributed and what happened first.
  12. Some descriptions mention pressure on a gate or part of the structure collapsing. It's not yet confirmed whether a collapse triggered the crush. Investigators must also examine the exits, lighting and emergency response before assigning responsibility.
  13. Police reinforcements, firefighters, a disaster-management team and ambulances with medical teams were sent. Rescuers took people to hospital. Authorities closed the pavilion to visitors, then sealed it for examination. Police and forensic personnel began preliminary work, including reviewing CCTV footage.
